Can anyone request to be attached to a SF group part of a support bn as a 88M?

You’re not attached, you’re assigned. SF group isn’t a special duty assignment, it’s a normal duty assignment that anyone can be assigned to if they meet the prerequisites. The requirements are 100 GT, Airborne, Secret clearance and US citizen. The GT and Airborne are waiverable, the clearance and citizenship are not. As an 88M you won’t be waivered for Airborne but could have your GT waivered.

Can I get into the unit as being a volunteer for airborne then could they send me?

SSG (Join to see) it’s like any other airborne assignment. You will be placed on a follow on assignment whe you volunteer for airborne, you don’t get a choice where.
You volunteer for Airborne training, you are at the needs of the Army. When you are already Airborne qualified you can reenlist for that as a duty station of choice.

Those units can be funny for straight up legs to get into, not that it doesn't happen, but be prepared none the less.

I heard. But won’t be funny for long. Unfortunately I have the option to either chose where to go or go to airborne school. I’m thinking if I chose to go to an airborne unit as a leg (yes it’ll be funny) but that’s a guaranteed airborne slot. I might be wrong but it’s worth getting both options at once.

One thing I learned a long time ago, just because a slot is this or that, doesn't mean you are going. If the unit doesn't have the funds for a leg to learn how to jump out of plane, then leg you shall be.
