What route do I need to go to switch from the Reserves to active duty and change my MOS?

I am less than two weeks from being under a year from my ets. What route do I need to go to go active and change my mos? The mos I have in mind I am short about 12 points in mechanical maintenance. Is there anyway to improve that while still being a guardsman? I understand there’s no guarantee for the mos because of army needs, but for someone like me that’s has their mindset on a particular mos. Would it better to finish the contract and start the recruiting process over again as prior service?

To raise your line scores, you can get tutoring from your state and schedule a new test:

For going active duty, you have two options:
1. talk to an active duty recruiter now, and start a DD 368 for conditional release to leave the Guard early to go active duty, could take about 6 months or longer
2. talk to an active duty recruiter about 3 months out from your ETS, tell them you want to contract the day after your ETS.

The INNG Education Office serves, advises and assists members of the Guard by providing comprehensive resources so you can make the most of your education benefits.

I agree, especially since this soldier needs to retest to raise his ASVAB. I would worry about getting my scores up and then hit a recruiter about 90 days out. I can't see a DD368 being anyone's priority with the soldier in his last year.

My personal opinion you should consider talking to an Active duty recruiter because I'm sure they can help you retake the Asvab test. But definitely don't join Active Duty till you get the job you want or have raise your asvab score because it's difficult to retake the asvab and study to increase your scores while being active duty, my friends tried and had a hard time.
