I have been wanting to try out for SFAS for a long time but hadn't until I recently learned there is something called "inter-service transfer" which is coming straight out of Reserves and going to SFAS. I get you need a 368 signed and that whole process. What I'm getting at is that the SF recruiter I am talking to is not familiar with this as he works with about zero reservists here. If anyone has experience with this or can point me in the right direction of someone who can help me I would appreciate it.

Also commander here said he would be willing to let me leave early to go to SFAS, so being stuck on orders here is not an issue. This is what allows you to leave your contract early to attend selection and you would sign an SF contract assuming youre invited/selected. To my knowledge you can still go to selection without one, however its counter intuitive as a conditional release can take up to a year to go through a reserve chain of command even though reg states no more than 90 days. You will need to contact your organic unit and get the 368 from the recruiter, write up an MFR or statement of intent of why you want the conditional release, sign a 4187 and wait. Use that year to PT and practice landnav, dont come off coados until you have orders and dts approved to go to sfas.
