Reservists and Active Duty mentalities https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/reservists-and-active-duty-mentalities

I was on AD for over four years and came to the reserves for a little over a year and am now on AGR still working with reservists. A few things I have noticed that vary between reservists is a sense of discipline, safety standards, and the mission. Does anyone else notice the difference? On active duty, if you dont abide by the rules, you get hemed up. I noticed that reservists usually slide by as they only come to BTA once a month. I still think the same standards should be enforced regardless of the status they are in as we all still wear the same uniform. We often deploy together, and we are all one team, so we should expect the best from everyone -- Reservists, Active Duty, National Guard, whoever is there with us.

The "weekend warrior" mentality was an issue that we active duty folks noticed when I was still in. I would have thought that all the deployments - of all elements - over the past ten or eleven years would have helped change that mentality among Reservists. (And I'm really not "piling on" Reservists ... just saying what I saw when I was on Active Duty.) Maybe deployments do have that effect on the Reserve component. I have been in some reserve/guard units that were better than some of my active duty units LTC Private RallyPoint Member Thu, 03 Mar 2016 13:39:28 -0500 2016-03-03T13:39:28-05:00 Response by CPT Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 20 at 2016 8:42 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/reservists-and-active-duty-mentalities?n=1908209&urlhash=1908209

I'd be happy to treat it as a full time gig- I only ask that you foot the bill
Give us healthcare equivalent to AC
Get rid of the BAH type II
give us equal rates of VA coverage when we go to buy a home
give us DLA when we get forced to PCS on COADOS
Give us equal dental care
give us free childcare
build commissaries in our communities
give us equal retirement points systems
Look, I get your argument, but as a reservist this is not our bread and butter job, I challenge any AC solider to come to my engineering firm on the weekends and still be just as good as my team but without any of the resources or tools I have - that's basically what your asking-- can you get more capability out of the reserves? yes- but your going to have to find someone to pay for it. Sent almost 8 Yrs of my reserve time on AD. As a Senior NCO it is our responsibility to maintain the regulations, policies and procedures. every unit is different and command is different. That being said yes there has been a lack of discipline because it is only 1 weekend a month. However there are many units that are disciplined enough to always to do the right thing.
