First one that I was aware of was Clyde Bonwell. He retired in 1966 as a COL, although he was the BN SGM. He kept up his studies, as an officer, and was promoted from CPT to COL. Not only that, but he came in as a Technical SGT* E-6 and ended as an SGM.<br /><br />*Technical SGT was what is now the SFC. He already had some college under his belt and was given 4 years to complete his degree or be reverted back to enlisted with his enlisted communications peers. However he completed his college degree in time.
