I jokingly say we should just carry a laminated version of our CV, it would be cheaper.

In particular, the ASU uniform would look much cleaner with less items.

Am I the only one that thinks this?

On the ASU, I would keep ribbons and medals, specialty Badges and rifle/ pistol badge. Changes I'd like to see: delete the name plate; remove the extras above and below ribbons and medals as well as pocket mounted devices.. Keep the lanyard. Less is more in this case...for me. Sister services, what changes would you like to see with your uniforms? But do be careful, some soldiers get pretty sensitive about their flair. I've discovered this on several threads on this site. Most recently the below.

Army uniforms especially (and to a lesser extent AF and Navy) make me think of office space to paraphrase "fifteen pieces of flair is the minimum ok.....and if you feel the minimum expresses you then ok.. but we just want you to express yourself."

What would I change about the USMC uniform? Get rid of the mess dress for field grade officers and Senior SNCOs and make it all Dress Blue (or White) Alphas.

https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/should-there-be-a-tab-for-paratroopers?page=1&urlhash=358114#358114

Should there be a tab for Paratroopers? | RallyPoint

I spent 17 of 20 years on active jump status. That way they can show some pride in who they are and I could see what type of soldiers I have under me. If they are not wearing any of their awards how can you tell your combat vets from your non combat soldiers? By knowing who your combat vets are you know who you can call upon to get your other soldiers ready for combat because they know what to expect. The same goes with your soldiers who have the EIB or EFMB, they are great soldiers to help with training. They all have a great store of knowledge to share. I wish our current service would copy our former service and simply have ribbons for Drill Sergeants (see Instructors), Recruiters, etc as opposed to a badge. Like you I wore my badges on my ACUs (except when deployed as sew on was not an option when I deployed), but I would have worn less. I always took significant pride in my accomplishments in the military and do believe those accomplishments should be recognizable especially on your ASUs. So while I support what you are saying, there needs to be a replacement in the form of a ribbon like our beloved Corps.

Nice question. Send to the SMA perhaps the uniform review board will entertain it and ask the Institute of Heraldry to adopt some changes. It was awesome to see a Soldier's unit and their deployed unit on the other shoulder (Class As). It matched well with the years in service, and the deployed service stripes on the sleeves.

The CSIB has always seemed a bit weird to me, and there are instances where service members can where a quasi-CSIB for working with special staff. I've even seen some individuals rock two discs (One for staff and one for deployment).

Go back to the functional shoulder heraldry, I say. I'd also get rid of the overseas bars, I kind of like the idea of the CSIB, but only on the dress blues.
