What's the deal with our retirement now? We can't get it until 65 even if we do 20 now?

Not true. Service members are eligible for an active duty retirement after 20 years of service or less if a medical retirement or TERA is approved. Reserve Component Service members are eligible for retirement at age 60 (assuming they have 20 “good” years) or less is they have qualifying service (normally deployments) or if they have 15 or more years of service but are medically retired.

Army's saying if you're 60 with 20+ years, you're out. If you don't have 20 years by age 60, you have until age 62 to fix it. Either way -- you're history, bub
