Star Wars Day, and in the past we've asked who everyone's favorite heroes are. But who are your favorite villains? Comics, books, movies, tv, etc?

I like a well developed Villain.

Lex Luthor is probably one of my favorites, because I can really articulate why I like him.

In his own mind he isn't a villain. He's a man with the mind and resources to save the planet from a threat that only he sees.

Before the arrival of these "super human freaks" human evolution was straight forward. People were in charge of their own destiny. Now there are "gods among us" and they have so much power that man literally has no chance should the benevolent ones turn, or even have an instance of negligence.

Superman has no business being on Earth, and Lex Luthor is the only one who sees this. He is perhaps the only one willing to "proactively" deal with the threat. When you add the other self proclaimed heroes... the Earth is in constant danger not from itself but from threats brought because they're present.

If Superman weren't on Earth, would we be attacked?....

1. Vader- epitome of a great villian
2. Jabba The Hutt- represents like the "fat cats on wallstreet" to me large and in charge and full of greed and running all the dark ponies

Others:
TWD- The Governor, everything about the character drove to be a great villain
Gone in 60 Seconds- Raymond Colletri not your typical villain you may associate here but fit the role and evilness!

I have four villains that are my favorite.

Star Wars: Darth Revan
Another is Sinestro because I am a Lantern fan
The other two come from Batman and that is Joker due to just sheer chaos and his "humor" makes him so much more of a villain and I like how he just emerges from nowhere and the other has to be Riddler mainly because of how intelligent he really is and I love that no matter what he has to leave a clue even if he doesn't want to.

In Star Wars, most of the characters that would fall into the villain category are not really villains. They represent the established government, or their own interests. The Emperor is the leader of the legitimate galactic government. Darth Vader is the Emperor's right hand man enforcing his policies on an individual level. Grand Moff Tarkin is the regional governor for the outer rim territories, again the legitimate galactic government. From the perspective of a regular person in the Star Wars universe, the rebels would be the villains. They are the ones who are oppossing the legitimate government. All that being said, here is my list of favorite Star Wars Antagonists.

Darth Vader is in my opinion the big pappi of Star Wars antagonists. He is ruthless, he is violent, he is the first Asthmatic to be depicted as a bad ass. He tortures just for the pleasure it gives him. He kills underlings for their incompetence. He orders the torture and interrogation of his daughter before he holds herr in place and forces her to watch the destruction of her adopted planet. He does also understands that good leaders are hard to find so he does not kill them on a whim. He does not kill Admiral Piett after the Falcon escapes Bespin because he realizes that he is a good leader, and sound admiral.

I love the Mandalorians, their culture from the expanded Star Wars Universe is beautiful in its simplicity. They are a race of warriors. They test themselves through martial prowess. In the movies both Boba Fett and his "father" Jango are paid employees. Boba Fett is a bounty hunter which is a perfectly legitimate profession. He works both for Jabba the Hutt and Darth Vader. He uses his intelligence and tactical prowess to find his merchandise (Han Solo). He has the fortune of being paid to find the Millenium Falcon and crew for an Imperial Bounty, and Han Solo for a bounty from Jabba the Hutt. Double the money for one effort. Jango is a mercenary pure and simple he does what he is paid to do. He was paid to be the template for the clones, so he became the template for the clones. He was paid to kill Padme Amidala, so he subcontracted the job to his associate. When she failed he executed her for her incompetence. He was paid to protect the Trade Federation leaders from the Jedi, so he protected the Trade Federation leaders from the Jedi (at a personal cost of his head). So while in the films they are oppossing forces to the protagonists, they are self serving rather than villainous.

Jabba the Hutt is a greedy, powerful, self serving, arrogant, gangster. He does everything to increase his power, prestige, or reputation. He sends Boba Fett after Han Solo because Solo cost him money, and ran out on the debt owed due to the loss of cargo. He has people killed because they cost him in one of the afore mentioned categories. For a being that craves power, costing him reputation can be just as bad as costing him money. In the case of Han Solo, it cost him reputation and money so he just had to be dealt with.

I have started to gain a new appreciation for all of the Batman villains, but most specifically, the Riddler. He had a part in the corrupt Gotham PD, and was trying to clean it up. Sure his methods were illegal, however, so are Batmans...

Alan Rickman.

I mean come on... Hans Grubber, the evil German terrorist in Die Hard. The Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood. The Judge in Sweeney Todd. Not to mention Quigley Down Under and 2/3s of all the stage work he has ever done. And of course, Severus Snape in all 8 Harry Potter movies (ok ok, maybe not a full, hardcore villain here but he definitely caused trial and strife for all the heroes in the storyline while battling his personal darkness, demons, and heartache).

I'm going to have to cast my vote for ONSLAUGHT! The original not any of the following returns. He just reeks of villain! He's a mix of one of the most consistent good guys (Xavier) and one of the toughest and most misunderstood bad guys (magneto). Even apocalypse wouldn't mess with him. Took all of hulks strength just to crack his armor!

My favorite villians are the ones that don't see themselves as villians. Rather, they believe they are serving a greater cause, or acting for the good of others. Some of the best examples of this include:

Magneto: He had personal experience with blind prejudice and genocide as an inmate of Auschwitz, and as an adult he is determined to protect mutant-kind from the same sort of persecution.

Vito Carleone: Fiercely dedicated to the concept of family, his father and brother were murdered by the Mafia while Vito was still a child. Determined to protect his family, he rises to the head of the Mafia in NYC, and never loses his focus on what's important. In fact, a large part of why he gained the power he did is through that devotion, and the expansion of his concept of family to include his neighborhood, his city, and the people who worked with him.

Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader: Another villain dedicated to family, his first friction with the Jedi came when he was unable to completely forget his mother upon being chosen for Jedi training. Further rifts occurred when he fell in love with Padme, and his desperation to save her is what led to him pledging himself to the dark side. His final redemption came about also because of family, when he chose to attack his Emporer rather than let him kill Vader's son Luke.

I just realized we are all thinking of just straight villains, why are we not also thinking of the anti heroes?

I am pretty sure if we all thought of these characters as well there would be at least one person on everyone's list......
