It depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

As an example, we are currently using a primarily written form of communication (Web Forum). All sorts of combinations work for some and fail in others. So my challenge to you is to see where you fit in and work on developing the other side. It depends on the situation. It depends on the people involved. It even depends on how many people are involved (1 on 1, 1 to a group, etc). Realistically, it should be a fluid mix of knowing when to give varying amounts of either that the situation calls for. Asking for one or the other to be the complete and only answer is like asking if everyone is ambidextrous. The answer is no. But almost everyone can learn to be, with the right amount of time and patience.
