S.A.V.E. Training Now Available Online

Have you heard? The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has partnered with PsychArmor Institute to offer S.A.V.E. - a free online suicide prevention training!

Hosted by Dr. Megan McCarthy, VA’s Deputy Director of Suicide Prevention, S.A.V.E. training provides specific recommendations for how to talk with Veterans who may have suicidal thoughts and what to do during these critical conversations.

“S.A.V.E.” stands for “Signs,” “Ask,” “Validate,” and “Encourage and Expedite,”—simple steps anyone can take to help save the life of a Veteran at risk for suicide. VA Suicide Prevention Coordinators have led this course at VA facilities and community centers across the nation. Extending this important training to the world is a critical part of our mission to be there for all Veterans.

The free training video is available to all, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at https://rly.pt/SAVE

The 25-minute online course covers three main topics:
▪Suicide as a public health issue in the U.S.
▪Signs that a Veteran may be at risk for suicide
▪Actions people can take if they identify a Veteran at risk

We all have a role to play in suicide prevention, and each of us can ask a simple question that could save a Veteran’s life. S.A.V.E. helps learners understand the facts about suicide and what they can do to prevent it.

To optimize the impact of the training, the VA encourages watching the video as a group and discussing how you might share the S.A.V.E. training with others. That way you and your colleagues can spread the word faster about the benefits of this training.

Not familiar with this, but wore out correspondence courses available while I was on active duty. Nearly any area of interest was available.

The VA kills more veterans than any enemy the US has ever encountered! Don’t cry because I have moved on, understand that the VA, politicians and attention seekers are killing us with no remorse or a care in this world.
Do not be fooled by press releases, elected talking heads or the VA personnel, all of them use Veterans for their benefit and one day US citizens will wake up and be heard. Until America cares, more than 1,000 Vets will kill themselves every year.
Shame on you for not supporting people who write blank checks to our country!

I read these programs everywhere??? Why can’t I get help as a surviving Spouse of my deceased husband???..
Death by suicide!!!! PSTD!?!? It was never investigated!!!! I have yet to get a VA BENEFITS EXAMINER TO INVESTIGATE!!! Heartbreaking! Any direct help???? How about grief support to surviving family?? Never offered!!!!

I personally called the crisis line! As long as I said I wasn’t going to take my life... the call ended !! No other help offered ! Again, another door shut in my face! Heartbreaking!!!! What is real anymore.. to me the laying of my husband 6’ undernwith a military funeral! No follow up from his departure base upon retirement! Thus is real...The pain has forever changed our family...Why weren’t we offered grief counseling & denied all benefits??? A paper technicality... I held Power if Attorney!!!! The truth was hid...
No base wants a officer & enlisted affair brought out!!! Shame on WAFB

Another attempt by the VA to shirk responsibility. I have know 2 vets that called it quits. Both had the same issue. Unable to get a TIMELY reply and assistance from the VA. Getting something done through the VA is like watching grass grow. So when you're in pain and have no response from the VA you call it off. The vet calls the Hot Line and police officers will show up.
