Same Sex Marriage and military structure

For those who have been through the phrase of "Don't ask Don't tell" to the present Army as it is. How do you think the Supreme Court Ruling will effect the infrastructure of the military as we know it?

I retired the first year of Don't ask Don't tell, It's difficult for me to even picture todays military infrastructure, But I can't bring myself to believe that it's improved with the social engineering...

It wont? The only thing that I foresee changing is the non-chargeable leave currently offered same-sex couples if they live in a state that didn't allow same sex marriage to be taken off the book. I would imagine the OCONUS portion willl stay on the books.

I don't foresee much changing. Some folks may participate more in unit activities than before, but the overall impact should be rather transparent. As Soldiers (and Sailors, Airman, Marines and Guardians), strive to do our jobs the best we can and that won't change.

What would change? Everyone can be married and the military encompasses marriage and all it's support programs.

It should not affect it at all. Those couples who love to attend unit / command functions will do so and those who dislike them will still stay away. Just as before it took time for husbands to be accepted into the Ombudsman and other military spouse associations the same will hold true for same sex spouses / partners. Some will raise their eyebrows but it will not adversely affect anyone much.

It may change DEERS, but I highly doubt that it'll change military structure.
