In a tip-of-the-brim nod to its American frontier history, the Army is likely to change hats again - returning to the days of the wild west and adopting a dark blue Stetson as the official head cover for the current force of 1.1 million Soldiers.

A very practical choice. From a person who's worn one a lot - they shade the eyes from sun and glare, keep the rain and snow from going down the back of your neck. Keeps your neck from getting sun burned. I've water a horse with one, but I bet you could fill a radiator with one.

If this was true, I wish I was back in Idaho beaver trapping again, the price of beaver pelts would raise a bit!!

Great joke, but that would really be a good hat. I don't think, though, that I would be comfortable wearing it when it has a very specific history in the Army. I wear my civilian one from time to time though . . . in civvies.
