Saudi Arabia announced the formation of a coalition of 34 Islamic states to fight ISIS. This is on the heels of Obama' meeting with the National Security Council at the Pentagon and his speech following the meeting where he used the terms ISIL and ISIS interchangeably. Marking in my mind that change is coming.

"On Monday, President Obama said the U.S. strategy is moving forward with "a great sense of urgency on four fronts," which he said means hunting down and taking out terrorist, training and equipping Iraqi and Syrian opposition forces, stopping ISIS recruiting, financing and propaganda, and persistent diplomacy to end Syria's civil war.
"We are hitting [ISIS] harder than ever," Mr. Obama told reporters at the Pentagon after huddling with members of his national security team to discuss the current strategy. "As we squeeze its heart, we'll make it harder for [ISIS] to pump its terror and propaganda to the rest of the world."
The Coalition has been announced possibly as the result of the U.S. stepping up it's war against ISIS. "

A statement released about the mission of the Coalition, added that the coalition has “a duty to protect the Islamic nation from the evils of all terrorist groups and organizations whatever their sect and name which wreak death and corruption on earth and aim to terrorise the innocent,” Reuters quotes.

The Coalition will include Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Benin, Turkey, Chad, Togo, Tunisia, Djibouti, Senegal, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Gabon, Guinea, the Palestinians, Comoros, Qatar, Cote d'Ivoire, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Maldives, Mali, Malaysia, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria and Yemen.

Now the Arab world will have an independent military force and will not have to look to the U.S. for protection. This will be good until our interests do not coincide. This is the result of this administration walking away from our world leadership role.

I really wonder what their commitment will be on this. I just don't see them really putting up enough of an effort to really impact ISIS.

This is a great move. The GCC knows the "culture" of Daesh, they have the mandate of the people, the training, technology and capability to go and hunt them all down.

I think i'll take a "wait and see" attitude on this.

Personally, I think the Maldives are highly underrated when it comes to fighting terrorism.
End sarcasm.

Now if they'd only take in some of their fellow Arab refugee's.

In forming a coalition they may have taken a token first step. However, it remains to be seen what, if any, action may result from such a coalition, given the last histories of these nations and the region. Talk is easy, action, especially effective action, is not.

I heard that Jordin and another Middle Eastern country is working on a reformation. Like Christains had. Islam is a political system designed to look like a religion.

The water is shallow, mump right in. I will believe it when they do more than talk and only respond to their own national threat on occasion. There were many of these countries that signed on previously and the support was extremely lacking when the bullets were incoming.

I wonder how much of the coalitions efforts will go to fighting Iran and other Shiite militias. Remember Turkey announced it was going to attack ISIS too, only to have most of their bombs land on Kurdish positions.

Since Saudi Arabia's official sect of Islam, Wahhabism, is what is radicalizing and inciting Muslims to violence, I think maybe they should clean their own house first. Nothing but a big dog and pony show.

I am in the Middle East now and I can say there are winds of change here. I have spent several years overseas in this region now and I can say that I can finally hear some moderate Islamic voices over the constant din of violent extremist rhetoric. Fewer people are calling for the Universal Caliphate that many Middle Eastern Muslims feel the Koran demands. That is a critical key in Middle Eastern Countries and I hear more citizens challenging that the entire world must "submit to Islam". More and more people are speaking up and calling for the end to the genocide of Christians, Kurds, Jews, Buddhists, etc. They are talking about true tolerance and peace. I am encouraged and have hope for the region and for us all.

The demographics of the entire world are changing. With the extremely slow population growth in Western Countries contrasted with the population explosion in the Middle East, India, Africa and China we must realize that the beliefs of the rest of the world should be our primary strategic focus. If hatred, violence, religious intolerance, religious extremism, misogyny, homophobia, sexual slavery, sexual abuse, bigotry, corruption, flourish in areas with the largest populations, the export to the rest of the world will be war and strife. We must work with our partners around the world to change hearts and minds of the people because that it the ultimate strategic measure that will ensure that we are not absorbed into the Caliphate of ISIS, or Communist China or Communist North Korea, etc. or the endless cycle of war and suffering on the African Continent. When these countries teach peace and tolerance and their citizens experience it there will be a real sustained peace for everyone.
