Schutzenschnur or foreign jump wings? If you had both, which would you wear?

100% Jump Wings

Anyone who shows up can compete for the GPB, but only Paratroopers can earn foreign wings. Plus, it’s more fun earning the jump wings.

I enjoy my Schützenschnur more.

But the most fun I had was during the Nijmegen however, it doesn’t matter since Nijmegen is a foreign decoration not a medal so you can wear it at the same time.

I earned the golden shutzenschnur in 2005 in Afghanistan from the German Special Forces. I earned it before I ever had a set of foreign jump wings and I never wore it. I’m not a big fan of it. Just an opportunity. Once I earned them, I always wore the Colombian HALO wings. Out of the six foreign jump wings I’ve ever earned.

Actually the gold Schutzenschnur is a lot harder to earn then the wings. I wore my gold. But I guess it’s a matter of taste.

Jump wings, without a doubt! Everybody in the military shoots or has shot a weapon, but not everybody jumps out of perfectly good airplanes.

Army rules push me towards foreign jump wings (I prefer the Honduran ones because it confuses Marines). Officers are not allowed to wear marksmanship badges in the German army by regulation and by custom in ours. I do have both though.

Personally, my foreign jump wings (German and Dutch) meant more to me. In 1989, I earned my Schutzenschnur in Mainz area. The experience w/ our German "sister" unit was memorable. I wore the Schutzenschnur proudly for many years. These are experiences that I miss about the US Army.

As a Parachute Rigger who has earned both! Always Foreign Jump Wings! Anyone can do a competition and shoot a gun, but not everyone jumps from aircraft and earns wings! I’ve been lucky in my career so far and have earned 17 foreign wings to go with the 3 from the Army!

I would do the Schutzenschur. It shows that you met a particular standard, and it's bigger and flashier. What's one more jump?

Given that Officers do not traditionally wear marksmanship badges, I would prefer foreign jump wings (were I jump qualified). Even if I were enlisted, the jump wings are more prestigious.

I am proud to have received the Schutzenschnur in "Silber" awarded by our partnership unit, das Panzerbataillon 363. It proved to be one of my more memorable days on a live fire range.

That lovely schutzenschnur would be what i would rock, if i had both. Or one or the other. It looked more aesthetically pleasing than the jump wings.

I caught hell from my younger brother over this but there is no way in Hell I'm jumping out of a perfectly good air plane. He Loved to do it. I was at Brag in Aug. 1966 and one fine day they had us climb a 10 mile high tower. Don't correct me, I know how high that thing was. Almost touched the sky. The instructor and I had a decussation and I was on my way that afternoon. I liked my baseball cap even when Rod would raze me. Vung Tau, 1968
