VIDEO: Police say no cause for alarm in accidental self-inflicted shooting at Gainesville...

Gainesville Police said a member of the military unintentionally shot himself in the leg at the recruiting office in Gainesville Friday morning.

It appears to just be a training exercise/accidental discharge from the early reports. While I'm not totally certain, this reminds me of a training my recruiting station did with all those that signed up but haven't been to basic yet. They brought in some weapons and we were able to handle them and stuff. There wasn't any ammo around but we did handle the firearms. Why there was any sort of live ammo in that recruiting station is beyond me; but I'm sure we are going to see that Station Commander relieved.

As far as your question, I'm not familiar with the soapbox rant you mention but I'm confused as to what you mean by "used against us".

But firearms aren't allowed in the recruiting stations now, and this guy still shot himself. There have been plenty of other firearm related incidents in recruiting stations. I know a station commander that was held hostage by his recruiter. Also, many recruiters already carry guns while on duty, or keep one in their desk. Sooooo, I'd say the laws on the books make no difference in what actually happens. Might as well make it legal.

This kind of proves my statement that we cannot just arm anyone because of the position they are in. A pistol is not like a long barrel. You need more training with a pistol than a long barrel.

Yup! Saw this coming. How about we look at hardening the facilities a little bit. Hmmm, I don't know, how about upgrading to some bullet proof glass to start with.
