Sexual Assault intervention and prevention on college campus

So myself and other veterans on campus are trying to setup a program to prevent sexual assault on both males and females by creating a "safe walk home program". I am also looking for effective ways in which we as veterans can change our public image and serve the community. If anyone has any suggestions or thoughts it would be much appreciated. Thanks

Always do it in pairs and if possible mixed gender (one male, one female escorting a third).

That's a great way to improve the image of veterans, SPC Private RallyPoint Member! I like TSgt Joshua Copeland's suggestion to escort in pairs.

When I was attending evening classes at the University of Maryland back in the early 90s, I often escorted my professor/advisor to her car after class. It's sad that we live in a society where it's not safe for a woman (or a man, for that matter) to walk on a college campus without fearing they might be mugged or worse.

Kudos to you for this effort!

Get involved with organizations that promote responsible consumption of alcohol and positive relationships and conversations about consent. Most sexual assault occurs where the attacker and victim know each other and often involve alcohol.

That would be ideal, the last thing I would want to see is either members of this organization commit sexual assault or be falsely accused of doing so. I am currently trying to get in touch with my university's legal office to make sure that we are in accordance with both University policy and State/Federal Law. I just feel it is necessary to make a stand against such actions and make people feel comfortable around veterans in their community.

Depending on your gun rights views, there are several org's pushing for conceal and open carry at universities for this very reason.

See if there is a domestic violence or sexual assault prevention groups on campus. Also if there are martial arts studios nearby, they sometimes coordinate events. Also check campus police dept. They may be able to point you in the right direction.

Excellent and commendable idea, Specialist! Please let me know how you are implementing this, perhaps it can be employed here in some capacity with active duty soldiers at the unit where I work at Fort Bragg.

They did that on my campus, my university was in a rough part of town. as Msgt Copeland recommended mixed gender pairs for escort. Our escorts had radios to campus police, routing, comms, and reporting policies.

Are you familiar with the OPORD format? That might help after you do some researching. After you get your concept down, close your eyes and take a mental journey on how everything is executed with the who, what, when, where, how, and why.
