SFC Private RallyPoint Member How soon after you roast your coffee do you package it? Is the roasting date on the package?
I learned that the freshest tasting coffee is roasted within 6 months of harvesting and then (1) promptly packaged with roasting date on the package; (2) coffee beans should be ground within 6 days of roasting; and then (3) brewed within 6 seconds of grinding.
I like good black coffee and generally like strong coffee but a good medium roast coffee can be great as well.
The better coffees are grown at roughly 5,000 foot elevation - I have enjoyed coffees from central and south America, Sumatra, the Himalayan foothills, and Kenya nd Ethiopia.
Currently I am grinding and brewing some Guatemalan coffee which was roasted in early February 2017.

As i sit here this morning drinking a third cup of F*CK HIPSTER COFFEE (BTW, ya wana get on the ball here, I'm almost out and it still "sold out" on the site....lol)
Assuming you did not owner finance....Did you use investors? Bank loans or combination for your start up?
How vital was your business plan in your opinion to getting that financing pledged.
Assuming you did not come from a coffee roasting background, family, prior work experience ect...
How did you sell it to your investors (be it bank or personal) that you could create this start up in a no prior experience field and be successful (meaning ROI for them)?
What did you do to entice, encourage and I suppose cause them to trust your vision of how it would go and be successful?

Okay, I have a few questions:

Don't get me wrong, I like the veteran hiring goal, and I really get a kick out of Black Rifle Coffee taking on the pretentious, under-tasting and over-priced Millennial magnet, less than affectionately known as Starbucks, but it seems you want to take on Goliath by catering to a niche market with what may as well be a mission statement reading: "Hipsters Suck!". Are you concerned that the market segment you are aggressively targeting may be too limited? Can you achieve sustainable growth and take market share from giants in the specialty coffee sector by catering exclusively to what seems like a market "echo chamber" of personally like-minded customers? And closely related to that last question--not that I want you to compromise your core beliefs in the pursuit of profit--have you looked at or are planning on expanding brand identity ("expand"...not "change") to capture more of the market; and if so, how?

I understand you are looking to move beyond your current sales model into retail. It appears franchising will be part of your market penetration strategy, but even then--to say nothing of any corporate owned stores--have you identified barriers to entry and how to overcome them?

I'm in the reserves and an entrepreneur myself. Some questions

1) Did you start BRCC as a side business that eventually grew into a full time "job"?
2) What applications did you use to manage investors, customers and suppliers? How did you stay organized?
3) Does BRCC plan on doing Seed funding in the near future?
4) How did you pay employees at the beginning stages of the company?

I'm sure I'll have more questions later, but I'm running 2 businesses part-time and work full time for Amazon, but I want to be my own boss in the next year.

So I blew up a cup of Coffee all over the 1st SGT. once. Out in the field for a week. Crappy Fall weather cold and rainy. Been running around on the tracks all day. It had gotten dark and we stopped. We had been firing blanks from the 50 all day. Reached under the 50 and grabbed a couple of empty shells. Put my canteen cup on top and stuck a heat tab under it. Was heating up some coffee when Top walked up. Apparently one of the blanks was still live. Just as he asked if the coffee was ready it blew up and dumped the whole cup all over him. I thought I was in so much shit, but he just said thanks and walked away.

No question but a sincere thank you!
Last year I ordered coffee, mugs and stickers to be sent to Iraq. It was a for s*** contract, local company, I did not return. While gone my box of awesomeness arrived and sat and sat and sat. Iraqi Nationals are now handling US mil mail when first arrives in country. The package was returned back to BRCC in horrible condition; rained on, package falling apart, taped together, etc. I got a call in May, from BRCC, the guy sent out a new order to me saying the original order was not in any kind of acceptable condition. I received the no charge re-filled order about a week later. AWESOME customer service! I proudly carry my BRCC black mug all over town. You have a for life customer. Thank you. AATW!

Coffee Shops have been a resource for G.I.s for decades. Shelter Half near Ft. Lewis was a center for G.I. Resistance durring the Viet Nam War from 1968-74. So was Coffee Strong also near Ft. Lewis in 2007. It provided legal counseling to the military as well as resistance resources, like the G.I Rights Hotline, information on IVAW, VFP and MFSO.

Are you aware that the Crossfit Team Affiliate 2017 Champions are from Layton, Utah? What a great endorsement this Championship Team could be for you! I was at the Crossfit Games in Madison in Aug and visited your kiosk. I was impressed with your brand and was happy to hear it was Veteran owned and based out of SLC. Can't help but wonder if you were with the 19th SFG(A)? I myself spent 10 years with them as an AGR soldier with GSC AND HHC/HQ in the late 90's.

Happiness is indeed a Belt-Fed Weapon. And coffeee is its adjunct. I was at a edged weapoin traing in Scotland in JUly deep in the West Highlands and at the little lodge we stayed in, the bunk nhouse had a pound of Black Rifle coffee!!

@SFC Evan Hafer I could see a franchise being successful here in the Twin Cities. Even as liberal as the state is they still have a great respect for us Veterans and I could see a thriving business for a BRCC shop or 10.

I would be interested in franchise information, the Farmington, Lakeville and Apple Valley Minnesota areas are really growning and it could be an awesome area for a couple of BRCC Coffee Shops.

What's your opinion on the Army returning to spit shined boots and shoes when in garrison. I feel the Esprit de Corps went away with the spit shined boots. Oh the shine I could get out of my Jump boots was amazing!!!

SFC Hafer, I don't drink as much coffee these days, being retired (USAF) and a heart by pass participant. But when I do drink coffee, it's decaf. Does your company produce decaf coffee? Fellow by passers say their doctors recommend decaf, as it is better for the heart.

Boots-To-Business is a tough course. Lots of non veterans are now in power making decisions. Case in Point SALTON SEA. The lake is not one mile as Steve Bannon put it but 22 miles long/12 feet wide and south half is 500 foot deep. The lake includes Death Valley as the Salton Sink. My project for 13 years now at the Larson Justice center suite 200 with the 8 member salton sea authority. This project includes a 20 acre glamping center/a dock for disabled sailing/a grocery store dose not exist in Mecca California, and a dredge obtained from DRMO from the current administration cut backs. All in all at p9915 Sea View Drive DAS North Shore Yacht Club could be at least six veteran owned businesses and a plausible site for the 2028 paraolympic. games. Too bad the DAV and the American legion walked on as the 10,000 veterans who live in the area sometimes in the abandoned buildings can not get jobs or the va due to medical marijuana. The worst is the American Indian Veteran who end up like Ira Hayes. The VA dose not let them use the VA because their tribe and Indian Health service is obligated to under law. Now there is no head of the Bureau of Indian Affairs who was forced to resign under conflict of interest federal law. We use to in the National guard make Bailey Bridges for some communities whose old bridges were falling down. Now we dig foxholes for training. Did you sailing is considered physical therapy for quadriplegia and PTSD along with TBI? Instead of thanking us get like Mickey Rooney once said get the typewriters going and the stuff moving.

It would be very helpful if you had more information about each specific coffee that you offer. "Single Origin", "organic" and "altitude" are big differentiators these days, and to leave this out just suggests you're not all that interested in coffee. Seems more like you're just riding on the cool theme/logo and don't really care much about being 'great' at coffee.
I really like what you've done with the company and the branding but will spend my money somewhere they seem to really care about the coffee....
