Two of our LTs have done it to me, and technically it is correct, but I do not like it. Especially when I am trying to build comraderie or help them with a little light mentorship.

We actually had on new 2LT go around saluting 1LTs when he first arrived. Some of the XOs had a kick when this happened. I had to help this poor guy out when I was the S4 on why he didn't need to salute other 1LTs. My NCOIC pointed that out to me on what he saw and had to pass it along. I am not sure if he ever stood at attention for another 1LT that I am tracking. He may have on day one.

Shouldn't a 2LT really be a 1LT seeing as its your first time through? Then you become a 2LT because you made it through phase 1 and are now in phase 2? It would be like having your second sergeant before having a first sergeant.

Army rank is really freaking illogical. What would Spock say?

Yes- if the 1st Lt. is acting in the capacity of the company commander in formation, etc. then technically yes. I can tell you personally I never stood at attention or saluted a 1st Lt. when I was a 2nd Lt. outside of formation as the platoon commander.

Yes, under certain circumstances, like, if the 1LT is Commanding the Company and you are in formation, for example. Most of the time and in most circumstances, probably not something that's worth fighting over, though! Only if it would be a clear snub of authority not too and stand out as some kind of "challenge" or intentional disrespect.

technically they should. but any 1LT who insisted on it is a complete and total bag of douchery and would be laughed at and told to GTFO of the CO's office if he went and whined about it.
