Should a person that is just a poolee (new recruit) insult other branches just yet?

I realize there are jokes that everyone uses but should a person that is just a poolee insult other branches just yet? For clarification I am talking about my friend who had signed up but had not gone through any training. When he did go through training he quit. (Marines)

Absolutely not. We are all brothers and sisters in arms, and should treat each other with respect. There is a time and place for everything. During my civilian career, one of my friends was an old crusty Army Master Sergeant. When other people were not around, we constantly insulted the other's branch. This is ok when with a friend, but not advisable otherwise.

Ok-here's the deal; inter-service rivalry comes in two forms-The first is a healthy, competitive attitude that inspires pride in one's own service, and maintains the individual and unique cultures of each, leading to a broad range of abilities, and a well-balanced force where excellence is valued.

The second is like a bunch of kids measuring certain parts of their anatomy-it really doesn't matter if at the end, everyone goes home to the same "deal" they had before (that's the polite version).

The sooner a service member figures out that whether one's a space shuttle door gunner...or a file clerk...it's all about their individual drive, interest and competencies (not to mention fate), the better.

just a heads up - there was a young PVT not too long ago who thought it was a great Idea to call other infantrymen "Legs" when he did not even make "Chump" status yet ( that is a reference to jump school - you do 5 jumps to get Airborne qualified). Don't be that PVT.

If you are just a recruit you can insult anyone until you pass basic training and AIT or your schooling! How can you talk about another branch when you aren’t even in yet or still training?

I really wanted to say go for it, but in todays climate, you can't do what many of us did before you. Just be proud of what you are, what you bring to the table, and execute your duties and mission smartly.

So don't do it. But you have a plethora of AD/RET/VETS here on this site to help you out. Until you've made your way, we can make all the jokes for you.

I can't resist a moment to crack on a Marine or Coastie.....remember you're the HERO!!! Even the "Veterans" wind up becoming "HERO'S" in the end...…..

I'm in the "no" camp primarily for reasons not stated in this thread. First, a newbie needs to keep their mouth shut and learn. You learn by observation. If you open your mouth, you're guaranteed to have bad timing and are judged as wanting attention paid to your ego. Learn and appreciate the differences and then knowingly laugh later on about it. That will be a sign of maturity. Then you'll appreciate the depth of stuff like "The Zipper Suited Sun Gods were telling me the Marines are still looking for a few good men." Besides the obvious, there are about another 3 layers. When you understand what they are, then you are qualified to go toe to toe.
