Should cursive (script) writing be taught in schools?

Cursive writing is a basic skill that everyone should have, just how do You even do something as simple as signing Your own name without it ? Its also a lot faster than printing and losing the ability to write is a major step backwards. There are still times that handwriting is called instead of the impersonal computer or even written printing. (assuming they will even have that skill much longer) In My opinion no one but a complete idiot would suggest people not be taught handwriting .

In my kids' school, they were taught cursive writing first.
