Should effective leaders be defined by how many people follow them, or by how many better leaders they help shape?

The best leaders I have encountered were willing to give of themselves, just as you noted, SGM Private RallyPoint Member. They take the time to pass along lessons learned, to mentor, to coach, etc.

There's no doubt in my mind that your statement is true: effective leaders are defined by how many leaders they create, mentor, coach, assist, etc.
