Should higher ups be able to dictate the details for one's Promotion / Reenlistment ceremony?

I have seen and heard about higher ups dictating where, when, who and how some of these ceremonies will happen. I have always been of the mindset that those ceremonies are about the SM, and the SM should be making those decisions. What is your opinion? Should the SM have their wishes respected?

Yes, but you also have to factor in who has the busier schedule. There is nothing wrong with requesting how you want your ceremony to happen.

Reenlistment I totally agree it is about the SM and they should make that decision working with the COC though to ensure all relevent people can be there. Promotions I believe should be done by the COC but should take the SM input so that there family and others can be there.

For a re-enlistment
it is up to the Soldier where, who and when.
IAW AR 601-280

Nice to have input, as it is your day, however, units should have a custom and tradition.

A reasonable request should not be denied. This situation has been taken way too far in the past and resulted in a few black eyes. The puppet re-enlistment comes to mind.
