Should I do ranger school before rasp to get the tab or should I do rasp and then do tanger school to strengthen me ?

That depends on who you are and where you are in your journey. If you're a civilian you need to just get into the Army first. Most people with Option 40 contracts don't make it. If you're in the Army already it might be a different answer.
FYI you don't need an option 40 contract to volunteer for RASP it's open to everyone

What the H**L is RASP? I got my tab in March (I believe) of 1966. I went from IOBC to Ranger school dn then over to the Airborne course. Lat time I jumped a C-119 or ever saw one flying. Please educate me about RASP what has been done sine I retired .

Look at this like you would in the civilian world for a job, of course timing is key here. If you have the ability to go straight to RASP before Ranger school then go. If not then showing up to RASP with your Ranger tab, would show that at least you have the mental and physical toughness to get through that difficult course.

Rasp or in my day rip have to be completed to be assigned to a battalion. Once in a ranger battalion you will be evaluated. Only after you are selected will you be allowed to go to " Ranger school " . To even get to Rasp you first need to complete osut and Airborne school.

My Nephew was honor grad from Basic Training and was selected for Airborne School as a result. He was then honor grad from jump school and got selected for RASP after finishing RASP he finally went on to his communications AIT. After AIT he was assigned to the the commo brigade that directly supports SF. Fast forward he became a jump master at Bragg and then earned his master jump wings shortly before becoming an Airborne instructor at Benning. After a couple years of teaching jump school he is now the commo instructor for the Ranger Course.

Bear with me because this is going to be a long read.
Personally, I would say get your “Ranger Tab” first. That way you have some idea what type of additional training and specialized tactics your regiment will be performing during RASP training.
When I graduated Ranger School, Class 3-73, the 1st Battalion (Ranger) , 75th Infantry was being formed and my class was asked if anyone wanted to volunteer for the new unit being formed.
I joined the Army to go and fight in Vietnam, but the war was winding down and by the time I got out of AIT in October 1971 we were told there would be no more deployments to Vietnam. So off to Ft. Benning to jump school and was ordered to Ft. Campbell to the 173rd who had recently came back from Vietnam. Little did I know the 173rd would be disbanded and the 101st became my new unit. I volunteered for Ranger School and was accepted after the Ranger Qualification course.
Long story short, after Ranger School the only thing I had on my mind was to get the hell out of dodge after what I experienced. There were no wars to fight, at that time, so I took my skills and passed them on to the many soldiers I served with.
No one, and I mean no one can ever look down on anyone who earned the coveted “Ranger Tab”.A Ranger is a Ranger ,no matter what anyone says. You may have been selected and came out of “Rasp”with a better understanding of how modern wars are fought, but that doesn’t make you a better teacher.
If I had the opportunity to go back and be a part of the 21st Centry fighting force then “he’ll yeah” I would do it all over again. I would encourage any Ranger to sign up for the RASP School.
