Should I pursue recruiting in the North or South?

Working on my recruiting packet and I’m a little stuck on the assignment preference map. I know their not guaranteed but it has me numbering 1-9.
Anyways, from what I’ve read from other recruitiers and former recruiters is to avoid going North.
Any recruiters have pointers on picking a good location?

When I was recruiting folks in the south tended to fair better. People I know in parts of Texas did VERY well. I was actually offered a spot in a suburb of Dallas, but I chose Columbus, OH. I was young and I thought being in a college town wold be fun. HUGE mistake! For the most part it wasn't the most military friendly town, especially from 2005-07.

SSG Private RallyPoint Member I lived in the Houston area, but the threat of hurricanes, tropical storms and flooding make it a bad choice. Other than the Houston area, Texas and the other southern states would be my choice.

If you get any say I would pick a military friendly region, so probably the South and the West.

recruiting is what you make of it, plain and simple. If you go to a "Military friendly" area you could sign many contracts without a challenge or without reward, while in a more "liberal" area you could face the challenges and become the top recruiter in the station, company, or battalion. I chose Miami because I wanted to be in a warn place, near the ocean, I never stopped and think about what the job will require from me. After a long painful year of not being able to meet the quota, I learned how to be a better leader and soldier, I also learned about myself and what the real meaning of failure is. Our company went from bottom to the top as well. When I left recruiting, I was successful, I earned my Gold badge with three sapphire stars (I hear there are no more points now days). Of course, keep in mind I was a recruiter during the days of the surge in Iraq and times were different. Your must select a location based on your personal goals, both long and short. This could be the time where you earn your bachelors Degree if you don't have it yet, or the place where you sink and fail your career. Take a minute and call recruiting offices in the areas you are interested, ask them for their honest, impartial, and biased opinion. Finally, you must remember, is what you make out of it! Good luck! Put them in boots!

You should pursue staying in your MOS and avoid being a recruiter at all costs.

Although Marine Corps here, recruiting duty taught me a lot of invaluable skills that I still use today. Sometimes, recruiting duty can't be avoided. A piece of advice I would add for your location is that you pick a location that is good for your family (schools/daycare, lower cost of living - maybe near a base commissary, jobs for your spouse, maybe additional family support). You will have a lot of stressors and time away from your family so picking a location that can help your family out will help keep the stress levels low at home when your "away" from work. If the family is unhappy, you will be unhappy which can affect your performance. This of course is dependent on the fact you have a family. If not, recruiting duty can be tough no matter where you go.

If you absolutely want to recruit, go to where you’re from... It can be helpful. Otherwise, Texas is the place to go

It really doesn't matter where you go, recruiting is the same, across the board... Be ready for the most stressful experience of your life...

I spent time up north in the Boston area and in West Virginia. Both spots were easy to recruit for if you used your sense and understood what was beneficial for the region and how to use them to sell the intangible life of military service.

Nothing wrong with NorthEast! I am a ring recruiter never had problem doing my job. I learned there is no bad recruiting Area just bad recruiters.

South...higher propensity of success due to better weather...perhaps other factors as well..
