SGT Private RallyPoint Member 7146253 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I am seeking career advice from enlisted/warrants from past and current 17 and 25 series.<br /><br />I am a 35 series active guard working in the IC. My day-to-day has not only given me ample amount of experience in the cybersecurity/IT field but also spurred my interest to pursue a warrant opportunity in the field. I self-studied earlier this year and managed to pass SEC+ and currently prepping my CISSP, and attempting to complete my CEH and other pertinent machine languages by next FY. The end goal is always to gain employment in the IC or LEA doing similar things post-military. <br /><br />My rudimentary understanding of 170A is that it is offensive and defensive while 255S is purely defensive in nature. Currently, my state has an excess of 170As and 255S is understrength. Should I heed my recruiter&#39;s advice to put in a warrant packet for 255S or should I wait for an opening for 170A? <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I have minimal knowledge of either MOS that being said I recommend you take the opportunity that is available now instead of one that may or may not be available later. Also you might be able to switch from 255S to 170A later if 170A becomes understrength. Warrants switching MOSs isn&#39;t common but its not unheard of either.

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Not sure if I’m way too late here, but for you or anyone else searching the same… I’ma 35 series getting ready to put in my WO packet. I know many in Cyber… 255S training (at least as of last summer - 2021) includes training for SANS courses. 170A does not. My kid is a 17C and similarly, they did not have opportunity to take any certification exams; it is my understanding that 25D (NCO “equivalent” of 255S) at least offers a SANS cert or two.
