Should I retake my ASVAB to improve my 114 GT score to make my Warrant Officer Flight Training packet more competitive?

I am getting my WOFT packet together and would like to know if I should retake the ASVAB to get a more competitive GT score. I have a 114 and still need to take the SIFT. I have plenty of time to study for the SIFT and should score above average. I have a 592 ACFT and 270 APFT but need eye surgery. Do you all recommend LASIK or PRK assuming I qualify for both?

I would ask the recruiter this but none are responding to my calls or emails.

Getting a higher than necessary GT doesn't help anything in the Army. No board uses your GT as an evaluation metric for anything. You either meet the minimum requirement for GT and you are qualified to apply, or you do not. Invest your time and energy in other areas

PRK. Longer recovery period but my eye sight is better than 20/20

Your best bet is to find some flight warrants in the aviation battalions that you can talk to. You will need to know because you will need to get a recommendation from a senior warrant. I would suggest finding a warrant who just went through all the schools who can help you with your packet.

Back before I went to Iraq I got PRK. I was told that anyone on flight status could only get PRK, not LASIK. You need to confirm which one you’d be allowed to get if you plan on flying. Mind you, that was 06 so things may have changed.

I echo all that has been said already. There is no utility in raising GT score. PRK will likely be the required surgery if you desired to be a pilot. The only other thing I would consider is that your vision needs to be correctable to 20/20 to qualify. You don't necessarily need a surgery before dropping your packet, depending on how bad your vision is. They can always give you the surgery later. SFC Private RallyPoint Member suggestion will probably help you out the most. A Warrant could help clarify a few things.

DO NOT retake the ASVAB if you have already met the qualifications for any program you are trying to get into. The ASVAB is *not* like your tests in school. The military will use the most recent score, even if it is lower. I am in agreement with SFC Private RallyPoint Member .

You cannot have surgery prior to training, but if you are allowed to get PRK or LASIK, it will have to be done 6-12 months prior with follow-ups every 6 months.

Unless my memory has faded too from my nugget; I believe that 110 would qualify you for any Army school. I have a 117 GT score and I actually turned down a job offer as an Air Traffic Controller for a job as an 11B.

Just cannot beat the Great Outdoors.

I had a 116 GT score and was picked up on last month's WOFT board, it seems to me that life experience, and letters of recommendation had more of an effect on my packet than my straight up scores did. I did well in the sift scoring above average, so that might lend you a little bit of insight on what parts might be more important than others.

Out of the 34 people that applied for WOFT in May of 2021, 22 were selected.

If you have a 114 GT, then why would you kill the goose that laid the golden egg? If you retake the ASVAB and shit the bed, and go below the minimum 110, you're screwed. Spend your time concentrating on your vision needs

You’re over 110, you’re good. I would focus more on the flight test and getting your LOR.
