SSG Private RallyPoint Member 5628986 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Looking for some advice, I was told by my 1SG and retention that after my time on the trail I can either go airborne or risk staying armor. I&#39;m at the point where I have to reenlist being a E-6 with almost KD complete in the Armor I would like to stay infantry doing infantry things but, I see 2 sides of the coin. I can risk staying armor and still go to ranger school while also having the ability to go MG and using that identifier but on the other side I can stay infantry lead a rifle squad and eventually a rifle platoon. <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Airborne. <br /><br />Don&#39;t look at the perks, look at the culture. Which one do you enjoy working with more? I wasn&#39;t a fan of being in a mech unit, but I loved being Airborne and being in the Airborne community.

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>As long as you aren’t brainwashed into lockstep with a ridiculous Marne standard attitude avoid mech like it’s the plague. <br /><br />I despised being mech after spending my career as a light fighter. I didn’t feel that the mech attitude or culture was congruent with or relevant to the actual fight.

You need to ask yourself what you believe would be most rewarding. There are benefits to both. Ask people you respect how they enjoy both.

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>You can go ABN and Stay armor.<br />When i was 3/BCT our unit is/was 5/73.<br />They even had a troop of bang bangs, I think it was Delta Co.<br /><br />I been out the jump game for a couple years, but I think you should go where you think you will make the biggest impact. Good luck with your decision...and know that soldiers who thrive in ABN units are the ones that want to be there.
