Should I stay as a 68W or go to 68C? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/should-i-stay-as-a-68w-or-go-to-68c <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I served in both the NG and active duty as a 68W and I&#39;ve been in a total of 3 years, going on 4. I worked Ems on the civilian side and I can say with confidence that I do not want to make a career out of it. My end goal is physician assistant, but I believe becoming a Charlie would benefit me. The reason being is because it puts me in a clinical setting much more frequently than being a medic allows. It&#39;s also a better life as an enlisted soldier. What do you all think? But, If you want to be in a clinical setting as a medic, go to a duty station like Fort Belvoir or Walter Ried where operation skills are the emphasis over institutional training (i.e. Tactical Comabt Casualty Care) As I understand you need about 100 hrs shadowing a PA and to be frank, what you need more than anything is just time with a PA irrespective of the location (clinic or field). However, in a hospital, being either 68W or 68C will benefit you in this regard and PA’s are very welcoming when soldiers want to shadow them, as most were enlisted too. Personally I don’t think the switch is necessary so much as you prefer to work in a specific kind of environment. 2LT Private RallyPoint Member Mon, 13 Aug 2018 09:27:11 -0400 2018-08-13T09:27:11-04:00 Response by SPC Sheila Lewis made Aug 13 at 2018 9:32 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/should-i-stay-as-a-68w-or-go-to-68c?n=3876341&urlhash=3876341 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Sounds like you have made your decision to become a PA, now go out and make it your reality. I also want to do IPAP or something similar, and I thought having a license so I could regain experience would help but honestly the program is completely discouraging and the classes aren’t exactly taught well. You get what you pay for essentially, and it’s free. I would instead shadow PAs and nurses. If you learn how nurses support their docs, it will help your future work relationships and you’ll get an insight on total patient care some docs forget about. But please don’t waste your time.
