Part of me wants to switch out of this CSSB Headquarter unit, into Civil Affairs in the Reserves. But My First Sergeant is basically offering me an NCOIC position for our S6. I’m not sure which I should do. Either way I have to reclass, either to a 25 series MOS or to 35B. I guess what I’m asking, is I’m an E4, and this seems like a really good opportunity. But do I want to do that, or do something a little closer than what I’m used to as Civil Affairs. But I’ve also heard some not great things about Civil Affairs Units in the Reserves Should I take a section chief position or reclass to 38B? 2020-01-08T16:10:27-05:00 SPC Private RallyPoint Member 5426136

So I’m new to the Army Reserves, coming out of an Infantry unit with the National Guard. I can tell you whatever you want to know.
I would say that you will certainly make rank as a Civil Affairs Soldier faster than as a 25 series.
The downside is that you will deploy at one of the highest tempos in the Army.

If you have specific questions, fire away. He loved it and said the physical bennies were so good, he went back two more times. He said it was not a true cakewalk, but damn close. They are over-deployed and that causes issues with retention of good NCOs and Officers. On the other hand, there are plenty of opportunities for extra training. I was able to do crew served training and no I'm on my way to DLI after a deployment in Poland. Some reserve units will get you airborne and air assault if they are on jump status.
