I have always believed officers should get some kind of clothing allowance. Maybe not as much as enlisted but definitely something. Think about how much a full set of 4 uniforms, boots, and PT gear cost. That is almost 2 months pay for a us. Probably dates back to when officers had to provide their own uniforms to fight the British.? I can’t speak to my active counterparts needs and wishes, but it gets expensive paying to keep up with every change in uniform. Luckily, I was issued partials of everything right before my commission. If anything, I would advocate a one time allowance any time a uniform change is approved.
