I have overheard conversation of soldiers complaining lately about the unfair cost of housing on post. And I was tempted to agree with some of the opinions voiced: On-post housing's cost should be lowered. What do you think RallyPoint community? Should On-post housing be costing soldiers their whole BAH? 2014-12-15T21:16:36-05:00 1LT Private RallyPoint Member 371680

Surely soldiers are given the choice to live off-post, but some choose to be housed on post because of the proximity to their duty location. I lived in quarters much of my career- 10 minutes from my unit- Yes it took all my BAH, but the quarters where more than adequate- all utilities but phone/cable where paid for, decent appliances. No upkeep. With all that, why are they complaining- can they find all that off-post for the same price- then move. The rent for my on post house is less then my max BAH for the month however, I still have to forfeit the remainder set for the month. I wouldn’t mind so much if housing kept the end of the bargain and had decent maintenance! My home is inundated with ants and my windows are not properly sealed and...yeah I will not rant here but...back to the point. They should lower the cost for on post housing and if applicable refund the remainder of BAH if applicable!!! But in favor of convenience- I’d say yes.

I wake up at 0300 regularly- on post that would put me in the gym by 0400/0430.

Off post- that puts me in my office to prep for the gym @0500.

Conversely- the quality of what I pay for is significantly higher off post.
