No! Twitter allows Pres Trump to communicate unfiltered with the American People. It provides a new means for the President to use the "Bully Pulpit" to influence public opinion. Best of all, it cuts out the liberal media. Presidents who exploited new media have often been most successful, for example, Pres F.D. Roosevelt using the radio for "fireside chats" with the American people and Pres Kennedy understanding the dynamics of television during his debate with Mr. Nixon.

On the other question about national security: remember the President is the ultimate classification authority. If he releases information to the public, then it is Unclassified. I'm confident Pres Trump will exercise due regard for national security information in composing this Tweets.

This is an interesting one. I appreciate the unfiltered access to POTUS however it is apparent sometimes that the POTUS does not recognize the magnitude of a tweet from the leader of the free world. I think he gets better at it with time . I just hope too much damage would not be done by then. If anything it gives the public a direct snapshot of how he thinks. This could be either beneficial or detrimental

A better question is "why should he"? It's free speech and even though much of what he says is not what we have come to expect and some is just plain petty, stupid and alarming it's a method he chooses. I'd rather have a scandalous tweet a day than no news at all, and the latter alarms me more because we have no idea what he's thinking. He likely has no idea what he's thinking either but absent another BS restriction I don't see how he's violating anything other than the trust that well over 1/2 the Nation never had in him from the beginning.

I expect our President to use the Official Twitter account @POTUS to communicate with the public. However, I also feel that Donald should stop using his @RealDonaldTrump account. The question of POTUS or The Donald tweeting could have legal issues if something gets tweeted that should not be.

Donald Trump is now our President, use the official channels. Once his Presidency is over, go back to using his personal account.

I believe the President should use any means at his disposal to communicate with his constituents. I believe that the communication should be professional. Why not use all available technology to his benefit? When the radio was invented President Calvin Coolidge was the first to broadcast the State of the Union Address. My thinking is that the President, like the rear of us, has the right to have such an account if he so chooses. That being the case, there also exists the duty to use discretion in what one posts, or tweets, or whatever. Our nation has a long history of having leaders causing themselves serious problems by not considering their responses to given situations. Unfortunately, I am guilty of the same. Anyone with a spine feels compelled to instantly strike back when attacked as a natural reaction. As the most powerful leader in the free world, it is possible that President Trump is surrounded by others who are simply afraid to be frank and honest enough to advise him of the most prudent courses of action at times. It is also possible that he refuses to listen to what his advisors tell him at times. My soldiers used to get tires of hearing me tell them that "Facebook is the devil!" And that they should be extremely careful what they posted on any social medium in existence because things have a nasty habit of coming back to bite one is the ass in certain circumstances. If i had a platform to advise the president, I would first suggest that he take a few minutes to cool his jets before firing off tweets at all hours of the day or night. I would also advise that he take a few minutes to consider the effects, or consequences of his words when responding to the barrage of hatred coming at him from all sides. One of the best leaders in my early military career used to tell me to ask myself, "Is this the hill you want to die on?" anyone who has ever heard those words knows the meaning well. If
I had the Prsident's ear, I would advise him to ask himself the same question as many times during a day as necessary.....

So, he took a Private, promoted him to Major, and had him read his orders before final issue. If the Private understood what Napoleon wanted, his field commanders better get it.

When is OK to give up your first amendment right to free speech? I know as a Unite States Marine, that once I took an oath, that there are certain rights that are not afforded to me. Like while in uniform, my opinion on all matters concerning the Marine Corps or the military, should never be given. Every branch of service has spokes people that represent their particular branches. My opinion would just cloud the issues. And if you have read any of my comments, I am glad I kept my mos the shut, while in uniform. The more I think about it, I may take my own advice after this post. I like the fact that the President tweets. But I just wish He would think about all sides of the situation be for just blurting out an emotional response. He is the President of "All the People". In my opinion, we are witnessing the most concerted attack on our institutions protecting our democracy/republic from undermining political comity to trite but propaganda laden comments such as "fake news" which is one of the most destructive & most used. Someone needs to exercise some restraint over what is transmitted by President Trump's Twitter account - before the unfiltered nature of the content gets us into an otherwise avoidable shooting war or some other violent conflict. But rights come with responsibility... And "with great power comes great responsibility". I do not feel that, in general, they are very professional. I think that they bypass the official channels for how our top officials and government agencies make public announcements/proclamations and work to subtly undermine the bonds of civility that unite this republic. In short, they serve to further the purposes of the enemies of freedom and Liberal Democracy by sowing discord and distrust. I, personally, believe that the majority of his Twitter posts (like the majority of ALL Twitter posts... or Facebook "news") should just be ignored or at least taken for what they are... opinion.

I feel by his direct Tweets he keeps us informed. I prefer his facts over distorted media, Hollywood, and un_patriotic Politicians spin.

I questioned the ethics of Politicians (on the Floor) making false statements. Adding they should be required to correct their comments.

The answer I received told the story. They are protected by the 1st amendment and the floor does not have "fact checkers". They rely on media, which is a joke. It is like them making Political Speeches, they can say what they want and it is up to us the voter to see if they follow_through on their words. "Like" if you like your Dr you can keep your Dr. Benghazi was due to a Video, And so many others it is not worth mentioning.

This election people wanted change and through President Trump they are seeing "positive" changes. Our Military, our VA (HR 299 sit for 43 yrs & POTUS made one phone call and it was passed in a few weeks), Tax Reform, Health Care Reform, handling ISIS, respect from countries around the globe and shining a light on media corruption.. not mixing words, while others would prefer Presidential words. What is more Presidential than putting America 1st.

I may sound Political, which I am not, I am a Patriot who loves our Country, and I will defend those who serve and defend America.

The President has the right to communicate with us as he sees fit. He didn't have the right to restrict access to public tweets it to delete them, however. The Presidential Records Act makes it clear that any attempt to do anything but make every message viewable by every citizen is illegal, however. As long as Trump is complying with the law, he can say whatever he wants. The key there is that he'd still be operating within the law. When his comments verge into slander/libel, however, I don't think he should have any immunity. I can't get away with making untrue accusations, and the factually inaccurate tweets should likewise be banned, even for the President.

While many answer with a resounding “NO!”, I am quite concerned with the ammunition this POTUS gives nay-sayers.

It goes beyond “not presidential”; reality is too many of his tweets have caused those who are nit comfortable with this POTUS to become outright distrustful of anything POTUS or staff happen to say.

Going back and clarifying doesn’t help — once the knee-jerk negative response takes place, it pretty much sticks. First impressions really are lasting impressions.

Twitter suppresses conservatives, I know, I'm on my eighth user name this year... I don't trust either platform. Mr. Trump must have a Twitter account.

No he should not. I realize that at times he is perhaps his own worse enemy, and he often says things that are criticized as "unpresidential," personally I find it refreshing to see and hear. God knows the "professional politicians," have not exactly done us any favors.

I don’t think this president or any president for that matter should not have the ability to communicate with the people of this nation by any means. Twitter, and Facebook gives all people the right to put out any idea regardless of the contact whether you agree with the comments or not. That is why we served, to protect our nations ( people ) the right to free speech. I would say that just because you have the right to post anything you want doesn’t mean you need to or that what you say is right. I think our current president could use some simple restrain and post less of his feelings. Once you hit send there is no turning back. I heard some advice once about emotional posting; it should be avoided. If you must , write it and send it to yourself, it it still makes sense to you in 24 hours and you still feel compelled then post it, just know it will always be out there for interpretation for ever. Alot of the time I read people’s posts including the president and I realize that there are a lot of idiots out there who would be better off keeping their thoughts to themselves. Drive on drill sergeant!!!!

Considering his tendency to have inflammatory comments, his condoning of violence against people who disagree with him, his name calling to those who finally say "enough" and the fact that SOMEHOW, he completely appeals to those who would like nothing more than to espouse the ideology of white supremacy....
I'm worried because
1. It's only been less than 60 years since Jim Crow was being enforced.
2. Words DO have a way of leading to violence, especially if the national leader continually spews the same thoughts - we DID have to go into Europe when it got to that point.
3. Distrust is becoming a result of his tweets, especially when people condone his speech and encourage him to say more. How? Others believe you don't care; they'll wonder if deep down, you're actually agreeing with what's said and are just waiting to do harm.
