I over heard a group of old men talking the other day about the POW award, they claimed that any Prisoner of War Medal Recipient should not pay federal income tax much like a Medal of Honor Recipient, but should not receive the other benefits of a MoH.
What do you think?

Interesting question. I haven't seen anything to show that Medal of Honor recipients do not have to pay taxes (link to sample benefits below). Do you have anything to clarify? What I've briefly researched, it seems to be more of a rumor.
Today’s news about the extraordinary heroism of Medal of Honor recipient Army SSG Giunta brings up an interesting question – what benefits and privileges will SSG Giunta get?

Maj Weiss, the Medal of Honor Pension is a benefit paid by the Department of Veterans Affairs ( Currently $1277.89 monthly), and like all VA monetary awards, is tax exempt. I don't believe any other income the recipient has would be excluded though (not that I would have any issues if it were to be excluded!! )
This document amends the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) regulations by making nonsubstantive changes to reflect new titles of certain VA offices.
