Should Reserve units send those who are not MOS qualified to Annual Training?

Should a soldier in the reserves be required to attend annual training even if he/she isn't MOSQd for the unit they're in? For example, I have been 12B Combat Engineer qualified since 2011. I am currently in a MP unit but I am not qualified as an MP. I have been in for over 5 years and this is the 1st year I will be attending AT. I'm glad I get to go, but do you think every unit should require soldiers who at least hold an MOS to attend AT? I think they should.

Yes, you are required to attend. Budgets being what they are though you could probably gonto the MP RC course in lieu of AT. That would get you MOSQ'd

I know at least on the AF side of the house there is plenty of other annual/routine training that gets done during AT that just can't get done during traditional UTA weekends that has nothing to do with MOS (AFSC) training.

If you are a 12B assigned to an MP unit, then that tells me you are either assigned to a 12B slot within that MP unit, therefore you are MOS qual and can go to AT or you are slotted in an MP slot. Either way, you have an MOS and can go to AT. Since you are not an IET soldier, then get your bags ready and brush up on your engineer skills. Hell, if you play it right, you can assist your platoon/company in planning and prepping defensive positions. And just remember one thing....SAPPERS FORWARD!!!

I think AT is very important but what needs to happen is AT where you integrate into active duty personnel in your job field. You need to be proficient in your stuff.

If you are not MOSQ *for the slot you're in*, then you're not supposed to be allowed to go to Annual Training.

I'm glad you are glad you get to go, because I'm being forced to go to a second AT, despite the undue burden on my civilian employer, so I wouldn't have really had any sympathy....

You are required to attend that is a big part in having a good year.
Now if you we on ad during this physical year then you can be excused.

It honestly depends on what you'll be doing at annual training. If you're there to simply take up space and collected a paycheck, then no. If, however, your involvement would directly *positively* contribute to the mission, then yes. I can tell you that when/if you deploy there'll be instances in which you're doing a job that's in no way, whatsoever, related to your PMOS. As a 92A (parts clerk) I filled in for the operations, and transportation coordination NCOs on several occasions. Often times it's necessary to pull someone from his comfort zone/lane to accomplish the overall mission. In the end, it'll make you a better, and more capable soldier.

Yes! Talk about a golden opportunity for O.J.T.! After a few ATs, you should know a great deal of the stuff they teach at AIT. I say that, but my 12B AIT was only 6 weeks. I expect that MP AIT is considerably longer and more involved. If you join the ACLU they might let you slide on some of the 4th and 5th Amendment requirements. {joke!}

request a school slot and mos change to fit into unit, iam sure they have you in a slot already just request the slot to got to mp ait
