Should the 82nd ABN DIV lose their Airborne Status because of budget cuts?

There are rumors that the 82nd abn div will loose their airborne status October 1st 2014. I don't really believe it. Just want to throw the question out there.

I think that this is something that budget cuts should not impact at all. Something like this has really shown us that we are not only being smart where we place our money but also not being smart decision makers

<P>Every year as the new fiscal year approaches, people start voicing their opinions on things that would save the military money in their opinion. That is heard by others and then construed as what is going to happen. As you stated it is a rumor and there are hundreds of them every year.</P>

<P>Rest easy Airborne and keep your pack ready, you will be jumping. If I was the CSM there and heard that rumor, I would schedule an "and you believed the hype" jump on the second of October!!</P>

There are certain personnel in Division that are never going to jump in a combat situation and they should probably be taken off jump status. I know there are many different feelings and view points about this but to me that is a good way to save some money.

Should Sailors lose sea pay because of budget cuts? Should the 75th lose demo and airborne pay? I wouldn't think they would completely get rid of the 82nd. They would down size it before getting rid of it. Although we don't use the airborne tactics on the current day's battle fields you never know when you will need it.

Having served with the 82nd in 1970-72 with B/2/325 Infantry, it's difficult for me to say I agree with it loosing it's airborne status. Just think about the pride of the division and how these soldiers are willing to go the extra mile. The airborne soldier is a breed ahead of all others. I am against it totally>

Feet and knees together airborne; the 82nd will keep jumping. If your worried about military budget cuts vote republican. Or, keep riding out those <1% annual pay increases.

I was wi9th XVIII Corp when the 101st went Airmobile. Talk about a morale killer. Budget cuts huh. How about all the bonuses given to all Federal employees? 70 Million last year for the IRS. And thats for starters.

I can't imagine it would. Having served in the 82d multiple times, there is no other unit in the conventional army with as much pride. It would be devastating to the morale of the division (past and present troopers). There are so many other options to the budget concerns.

I personally think not everyone in the 82nd should be on jump status. If you are no longer in Brigade or lower capacity. The chances of you ever engaging in an airborne insertion are slim to none. There is no need for the Division staff to rig up, your BCT CDR will be the ground force commander.
