That is heard by others and then construed as what is going to happen. As you stated it is a rumor and there are hundreds of them every year.&lt;/P&gt;<br />&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;<br />&lt;P&gt;Rest easy Airborne and keep your pack ready, you will be jumping. I know there are many different feelings and view points about this but to me that is a good way to save some money. They would down size it before getting rid of it. Although we don't use the airborne tactics on the current day's battle fields you never know when you will need it. Just think about the pride of the division and how these soldiers are willing to go the extra mile. The airborne soldier is a breed ahead of all others. Having served in the 82d multiple times, there is no other unit in the conventional army with as much pride. It would be devastating to the morale of the division (past and present troopers). There are so many other options to the budget concerns. If you are no longer in Brigade or lower capacity. The chances of you ever engaging in an airborne insertion are slim to none. There is no need for the Division staff to rig up, your BCT CDR will be the ground force commander.
