The Coast Guard Redeployment Assistance and Inspection Detachment Team (RAID) is distinct. The job was created in 2003 by the Department of Defense to ensure hazardous materials are properly prepared for shipment and re-entry into U.S. ports as part of the military redeployment process. One of the Coast Guard’s many responsibilities includes port security, so when a container comes through with the seal of approval from the Coast Guard, the cargo is less likely to get stopped.

The RAID Team is the most forward deployed Coast Guard unit in a combat zone. “Not many Coast Guardsman units know about our existence.

Most definitely should! Being a member of a PSU. No one knows what other jobs the CG is involved with. When you try to explain to someone and they say "I didn't think the CG went oconus!" How embarrassing is that? its easier just giving a short description and leaving it at that. We should be recognized for the collateral duties we perform.

I was an OIC for a LEDET during Desert Storm (1991). These guys know their job and deserve recognition.

Most people are not aware that less then 1% of the Coast Guard have been part of the special elite group called the "RAID Team", assisting the U.S. Army in Afghanistan Operation Enduring Freedom for 13 years. It would not be for everyone. Also the RAID team has been deactivated.

I know what your teams do because once and a while we have to send guys that are what we call Container certified so they weld or repair the containers. Also in 2012 ran into a Chief at FOB Dwyer and we talked for a while at that time the Navy phased out the DCU's so your guys were out there without proper backs ups for uniforms and we had a lot of DCU's left at our Main Body camp at leather neck and hooked them up with some uniforms. Anyway they will have AFG Camping Medal, OEFEX not every coast guard guy will have that. The other thing is you guys do not wear combat patches correct. So what would you place them on. I know some of your security teams attached to NECC wear Multi Cam so I can see that. Here is what I don't get we have special detachments that do all kind of work with SOF and OGA's Other Government Agencies all over the world and US. All they receive is the Campaign Medal and Deployment ribbon. I understand were you are coming from but my community does a lot of work and goes places where REG Navy would never go. It's like this if there is any Troops on Ground be it SOF or REG forces we are there with them, but the Navy Does not know this, and so should we have them and I would say NO. We work in the Villages just like SOF and we help SOF. Right now we have teams all over Africa and South/Central America working in Villages with all the locals. How many people know this and they don't have anything for just doing their mission.

Treat it like the sea service ribbon or cuttermans insignia. Besides, I doubt the Army types care or know what it's for. Getting award points should be good enough unless you are maxed out.

PO1 Tc1 Uscg - Good call. I don't know or care if another service creates any ribbon/badge/pin or insignia. As long as its worn properly more power to ya.
