Should the DOD put more emphasis on short and mid-term careerist versus the traditional long-term (20 year) careerist?

I still think 20 is cake. Civy jobs they make you do 30 years....and most of them can you before you get to that so they wont have to pay you retirement.

As an adult educator, I find a lot of former military are retraining for the civilian sector. The difficulty they are finding is that the VA is not paying for classes that they percieve that my vets have previous training in. So I think if the VA is going to take that stance, the DOD should look at short and mid term, since most people are going to choose a different career path once they separate.
