I started thinking about this after seeing in my last survey thread that most people never share RP threads with non-members and realizing that there are many threads on RP that should NOT be shared outside of the community.

I think it would be good if the thread author can choose whether it can be shared. I don't know if people have been citing RP posts or linking on their blogs, but I do see RallyPoint itself share topics on it's Facebook. Not that I know or would care if anyone shared anything of mine, but I can see why some people feel some of the things we discuss on RP really belong "in house"; and I'm not even talking OPSEC since such things shouldn't be shared ANYWHERE-You'd better believe hostiles scour places like RP!

I'm all for "spreading the word" about the existence of RP, but in my opinion, the having a small amount of content control in the thread author's hand doesn't seem like a bad idea.

Much agreed. Some posts only RP members would understand anyway. If the media found a way to flip some of the stuff we write here, RP could have a bad time. I share RP threads on my blog to many Veterans, especially my Command Posts, but no threads talking about someone's personal life and similar.

You can by using the Share buttons attached to the discussion. As long as there isn't an OPSEC violation we encourge people to spread the RP gospel whenever they can!

SSG Carlos Madden - What are your thoughts on the option for the content creator to open or close a thread to non-members?

SGT (Join to see) - You mean to have non-RP people comment on RP links?

SSG Carlos Madden - No, simply to be able to view the thread. For example, if I select an option " Not Viewable by non-members", non-members would only be able to view the first few words of the original post (somewhat tricky with the original question/status-updates becoming part of the URL).

The creator of the page should be able to decide who can and cannot see it. It's a simple matter of privacy.
