Despite his poor record on civil rights, I can see why he was selected as a namesake for a Navy ship.

An equally superficial look at the record of Senator Stennis' biography shows he was a dedicated segregationist throughout his legislative career. He brought lots of appropriations to his home state. He did push for additional funding for the Navy and for nuclear powered aircraft carriers. Personally, I would have named a ship after somebody else.

As to changing the name of the ships now, probably won't happen.Response by Lt Col Jim Coe made Sep 23 at 2020 11:32 AM2020-09-23T11:32:20-04:002020-09-23T11:32:20-04:00SGT Herbert Bollum6338419

I say get over the past and move on.Response by SGT Herbert Bollum made Sep 23 at 2020 4:24 PM2020-09-23T16:24:38-04:002020-09-23T16:24:38-04:002020-09-22T17:46:21-04:00
