I'm not one to go grabbing for awards - especially since I've left the service - bit this would actually be something that I would like to one day receive and frame separately from my U.S. Army awards. It would be nice to have something from "the people" of the place I fought for that demonstrates feelings of thanks and recognition. I like all of my awards, but it is like the U.S. patting you on the back for doing what you (after volunteering to enlist) were just told to do. A symbol from the foreign nation that they actually appreciated it would be something a little more special. Maybe I'm just weird...

Agreed, and although I display my two Kuwait Liberation Medals along with my other awards, they're distinct. There's no valid reason that the Iraq Commitment Medal shouldn't be the same and I don't buy the DOD's excuse that they're waiting for Iraq to produce the medals, personally. Did South Vietnam, which ceased to exist when the North invaded, create and produce the medals for our Vietnam Vets?

I can’t agree with you more, brother. There should be a push on the Trump administration to authorize this award. If anyone would do it, he would.

I did not know about it either. In fact I lost a bet that it was a real thing. When I was told there was an award for Iraq and Afghanistan given by the country similar to the awards granted by Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, France, Vietnam etc. I said it wasn’t true or we would have it. Then I was told Joe Biden was the only one who received it and I was flabbergasted.

How the hell did Biden get one?? Sitting behind his desk while hiding in the basement doesn't make him a Iraqi vet.

The Government of Iraq developed a medal in honor of those service servicemembers who sacrificed for their freedom.
Why aren't US Service-members wearing it?
Why do we wear freedom medals from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, France.. but not Iraq or
Afghanistan?

For the US to accept and approve the award the issuing country must provide the award to all service men and women that are authorized the award. They awarded it, they pay for plain and simple, you won’t receive it until then.

I’ve followed this since shortly after it was created. Joked often that Biden was so prestigiously awarded it, but no service members. It has been my understanding it’s all about the $, and insisting that Iraq pay for them. BUT... aren’t all the aforementioned foreign awards (Iraq, Vietnam, etc) avaialable at the PX in the same packaging (meaning being made by) the same companies that make all of our other awards???
