I'm not happy with some of our choices, specifically in the kind of "support" we want to send. What in the world will Ukraine do with a battalion of M1s, a battalion of Leopard 2s, and a battalion of Challenger 3s? 3 different tanks, different ammunition, different fuel, different maintenance procedures, etc. How does that help Ukraine? (It helps the congresscritters who have defense firms in their state.)

What Ukraine needs is MANPADS, Javelins, and similar equipment that can be operated without legions of maintenance and training specialists.

In terms of value, we are clearly demonstrating Russia's weakness, and perhaps even giving China a second thought about whether Taiwan is ready for conquest or not. But the bottom line is:

I'd rather fight on their turf than ours.

My Father always said " If you want to help someone then start at Home" and there is a lot of HELP needed at home. We spend billions on helping other countries but yet live in a country where people live in fear in their own neighbor hoods and homelessness increases daily. Border problems, Drug problems, gang problems and a growing mental health problem just to name a few. I think the UN should be handling situations in other countries with the US supporting with no more or less than other countries. All that excess money should be used to rebuild our own nation.

that is a yes and no answer,
not sure if I can give a proper answer, seeing how I do not have all the information,
that being said, I will give you my simple answer, based off of what little I know.
if it was up to me, I would stop all foreign Aid, all Foreign welfare !

no nation would receive a single thin dime of tax payer money .

I say this with what little information I have on this subject at this time, I Reserve the right to change my Opinion as I get more information.

as for fighting Poverty in this nation,

I believe the best way to fight poverty , is to stop giving citizens Gov welfare or any City, State or Federal assistances.
we need to start allowing Churches and charities handle aid to the poor, just like it used to be done before the City, State & Federal Gov started taxing the citizens income to give to those who refused to work , in my opinion the City, State & Federal income tax is nothing more than gov theft!

I believe City, State, & Fed Gov welfare is unconstitutional, and is used by elected officials to buy votes , by promising to TAX THOSE CITIZENS WHO WORK AND PRODUCE , to make a better life for themselves and there family. THE GOV HAS BEEN SCREAMING ABOUT MAKING THE RICH TO PAY THERE FAIR SHARE SINCE THE EARLY 1900 WHEN THEY PUSHED TO PASS THE 16TH AMENDMENT , thus legalizing Gov taxation and Gov theft, before the 16th amendment it was unconstitutional to tax the citizens income,

I myself am sick of hearing how the elected officials scream, we the American people are not paying are fair share! it never enough for these elected thieves!

this nation has been fighting the war on poverty since Lying Johnson , when he Realized that the minority citizens will be voting with the passage of the civil rights bill, he said the following , not my words , "I will have them Naggers voting for the Democratic party for at least 100 years " not sure if that is exact quote , I know it close.

Johnson has successfully replaced the father with City, State & Federal Gov welfare, Gov is there father . I believed this was the Goal all along, to remove the father and god from the family and to be replaced with big Gov , to make citizens dependent on gov .

it like the signs say, do not feed the wildlife, for they will become dependent on you, and no longer feed or take care of themselves .

as for veteran homelessness, sadly many not all but many have chosen to live on the streets for they are or have become alcoholics, Drug addicts, and until they are ready for help, nothing we can or do will help them. until they themselves are ready for help.
sadly I learn this the hard way, from a family member

please do not mis understand, we should have resources and beds ready for any vet or citizens for that matter if they are ready to Receive help, but until they are ready for help, there nothing we can do.
as for the aging military Equipment, until we have a Congress, Senate, and President, who is willing to address this issue nothing will happen , my Recommendation is to vote them all out of power and replace them with citizens who will uphold, & defend the citizens rights & freedoms , who knows the best defense is a strong defense , the best way to prevent a war, is to be so prepared that no one wants to start a war with you.
but until citizens stop saying it all those other senators and congressmen , it not my senator or congressman he or she is great, i keep voting for them, but everyone else needs to vote there out ! but not mine , nothing will change, we need to vote them all out of power and replace them, then and only then will they start doing there job

I myself believe we need term limits, if 8 years is good enough for the president, two terms for senators, that 12 years & 6 terms for congress , that 12 years they get no pensions no benefits other than a 401 k or tsp , every elected official, there staff every governments employee along with every single faceless bureaucrat is gone after 12 years. like I said, no pension or benefit's other than the gov 401k or tsp

This is a difficult response in not tying it to politics, I will try. The answer is Yes/No! Picture ciuntry A pissed at country B and has a massive military. Country C also has a massive military.

Country A invades B, gobbles them up and decides to move into the next most vulnerable country on their border, and this goes on while the Cs of the world stand by silently.

As the As gobble up other coutrys they also gobble up resources, wealth, by oppressing those they have dominated. Eventually A has the resources to take on the Cs-World War III.

There are obviously many reasons ine country would and should help another, the extended question is Boots on the ground Vs. military aide and possibly inbed trainers.

Here is where it gets back to politics and staying within the laws of the land.

I don't advocate "supporting wars", but we must help our allies defend themselves. There are some really vile groups/countries out there that are hell bent on cleansing the earth of the Jewish faith and Americans as well.
The worst part of that is that they have garnered the support of many young American liberals who have been indoctrinated by our folks in higher education. These kids have no idea who they are supporting. Given the opportunity, Hamas would exterminate most of them and anyone else that disagrees with them.
Redirecting the funds used to support our allies to internal resources sounds like a great idea, but it is not that simple.

SFC (verify to see) I often find myself asking the same question in my mind. I personally think NOT! Sending aid in other forms than money is a much superior form of assistance. WHY? Think about it. MONEY is the easiest way to encourage self-serving government officials (both sides of the transaction) to pocket something for themselves. If they need food, ship food through known charities. Same with clothing and medicine. Sending money to almost ANY political officer, assuming their fidelity is more of a fool's errand. If it's assistance to help them after a weather emergency, for instance, fund it through known and trusted charities with histories of doing good.

As we protect our interests all around the world, we are protecting our way of life in the US. We get cars from Asia, oil from Asia, spices, trade, and more. We get billions of dollars in trades from Europe, S. America and Africa. We have allies and customers who depend on us, if we don't protect our interests, nobody will protect our trades.
Do we really want to be the only ones in the world, left standing to counter Chinese aggression and might? the answer is a resounding NO.
Our defense industry provides millions of very high paying jobs and exports in trillions, those jobs cannot be replaced.
