WTF, I THINK THESE PEOPLE SHOULD FIGHT THERE OWN BATTLES, take from being on dismounted patrol in down BAGHDAD, IRAQ THE PEOPLE DON'T WANT US THERE. WE ARE TARGET TO THEM AND THEY JUST DON'T CARE ABOUT US. Have you watch the series of South Park where the South Park Kids go to Middle East to return the goat. They hand the Middle Eastern Kids the American Flag and what did they do, At the moment it was funny because it was South Park but that craps happens everyday in Iraq. They burn our flag. POTUS please stop sending ground troops because all your doing is sending back body bags for no reason, we are not at war, we are only at war with ourselves.

A few thoughts:
1. Wrong question in the wrong order. The first question should not be "should we send more troops to Mosul?". Questions that should be asked/answer first include but are not limited to: What is our strategic objective in the Middle East? What is our operational objective within Iraq? What is our tactical objective within Mosul? After these are asked/answered then the question of should we send more troops to Mosul is easy to answer.
2. We would not be asking the question of sending more troops to Mosul in 2017 if we had not unilaterally pulled out of Iraq in 2011. What do Japan, Germany, and Korea have in common? US Troops are still there after 57-73 years.
3. Can we achieve our strategic, operational, and tactical objectives via means other than boots on the ground?
4. Is the US Government and the American people willing to do what it takes to win at the strategic, operational, and tactical levels? If the answer is no to this question then it should be no to the question of more troops.

If we continue to go in there at this point then we need something on the back end that makes it worth it at this point. I support the idea of giving freedom to people who are suppressed around the world and to continue to support the interests of America abroad but after 15 years there needs to be something that the Goverment is willing to do for us to make it something sustainable and not only a burden on American tax payers, i.e 1% of country GDP, low fixed price on oil, or something of the like.

just watching I wasn't a fan of waiting until it's too late to intervene at the border but I think they are advising and I am not a Veteran of OIF, I think the operations more executive than congressional are now leaning towards what is being prescribed so we'll see. I would think it's controversial to have a war after rolling things up, have to see what happens and it seems an important mission for those that have to partake in it

We should have never left. We still have troops in Germany, Japan and Italy 72 years after defeating them, not as conquerors or occupiers, but as liberators and friends. The 82nd Airborne will make quick work of ISIS in Iraq, and then we should stay. There should be a Middle East Marshall Plan and a rebuilding of cities, towns and villages. Until all Islamists are dead or no longer have the means or will to kill us we must defend ourselves, our friends and our interests. So, yes, we should keep sending troops to Mosul and to all places where the enemy is.

Yes... If we really want to win, and have Iraq stay on the right side... COL Private RallyPoint Member... We should never left... Consider why we are in Germany, Japan, Korea, etc... and how long we have been there... Our political desire to go in and get out fast makes no historical sense... and does not support our long term goals and objectives... That is assuming we have long term goals and objectives for Iraq, Afghanistan, ISIS, etc...

A lot of the people who are against this oppose on the grounds of we shouldn't have ever been in Iraq in the first place, however, I see that as the very reason we should be putting troops there to help stabilize the region. Like it or not, the way we pulled out created a power vacuum. As such, we should be responsible for ensuring that the void is filled with a power that will ensure stability rather than guarantee endless war.

Sir... I was running a simple poll... gauging the temperature in the RP room vs current affairs in real time... Notwithstanding, thank you for the very informative Sr Service School block of instruction.

What you describe is known at your level as Theater Strategy and Campaigning... yes, for you this was the wrong question in the wrong order... because at your level, you are looking at the operational art/operational design of the problem... However, this would be a very challenging topic with a complex set of variables for a very binary poll... You clearly understand the 3 aspects of operational design of framing the operational environment, framing the problem and developing an operational approach. These 3 aspects coupled with the 13 elements of operational design and its respective lines of efforts was a bit too heavy for my RP community...

Again, thx for the 5 ton load on my 2.5 ton tuck.
