"(Unit Name withheld) BCT ordered to remove combat patches during training at Fort NoMatter so the ones without them don't get ‪‎hurt feelings‬.

Reason? "The unit just returned from Afghanistan and almost everyone has a patch but the large influx of new soldiers are E1 and E2s that have never deployed and they are saying they are left out because they don't have a patch."

WTF? suck it up buttercup. They earned those patches. you want one? Go out and earn it.

Should tell them if they wanted to be issued feelings they should have joined the Air Force.

This cant be a real question. should I not wear my Purple Heart because someone else doesn't have one, how about my stripes or service stripes? This type of question is a continuation of the "have versus have not battle" and has no place in the military. You earn your stripes and awards they are not given to you. As for a new solider they are visible reminders of something to aspire to not denigrate.

I think I had six ribbons when I got out. I was in my blues coming home from overseas and ran into some boot Marines down near Camp Lejeune...you'd have thought I was a combat vet the way they ooohed and aaahed over the good conduct, national service, outstanding unit award, etc. It's funny how things have changed in these years. I picked up a hitchhiker headed to Camp Lejeune one day and took him down to the base as I had some time to kill. We drove right through the gate even though I had Air Force stickers on my car and he actually had me drive right up in the hangar where his crew was arming an F-4 Phantom for a trip to the Dare County Bombing Range. This was somewhere around 1967-68 and can you imagine doing that today?? My big mistake was thinking I could make more money as a civilian and so I got out and regretted it ever since. The service is family just like the fire department is today.

This can't be true.
If it is, the Brigade Commander or whatever schmuck came up with this needs to hang up their boots.

SSG Alford Pouse - I had to wait ten years before I saw combat, but when it rained, it poured. I have many Soldiers like you who helped make me into the NCO I became - getting me ready for the time my skills would get tested. Thank you for your service.

Tell them to go sit in the corner and practice shutting the Hell up and write a 1000 word essay about why anything you get that is worth anything is EARNED. Better still take them on a 4 plus mile run and repeat until they have something new to bitch about.

SSG Alford Pouse - Soldiers that deploy and those who do not are no different and are still Veterans. Thats like saying those who stayed on the FOB are not really Soldiers just because they werent kicking in the doors. It takes a team to get the mission done.
Even King David saw this: 'Who will listen when you talk like this? We share and share alike—those who go to battle and those who guard the equipment.” 1 Samuel 30:24. The patch just says you had a different experience then others.

You don't have a patch and your feelings are hurt? Here fill this out. And when you are done, see that Colonel sitting at his desk? Yea, the one without a patch either. Yea, you turn that into him.
