Should we remove combat patches to be sensitive to those who don't have them?

"(Unit Name withheld) BCT ordered to remove combat patches during training at Fort NoMatter so the ones without them don't get hurt feelings.
Reason? "The unit just returned from Afghanistan and almost everyone has a patch but the large influx of new soldiers are E1 and E2s that have never deployed and they are saying they are left out because they don't have a patch."

The military is not about feelings but about orders. I understand that there has to be an emotional intelligence, but don't over do it. If you go with that philosophy where will it stop? Are you going to give them officer rank next because they want more money and don't feel a part because they are privates?

Totally wrong for the leadership to even recommend it. If this is true I hope all badges and tabs were removed as well! Just as bad as units that try to dictate which SSI-FWS a Soldier can wear.

Really!? This is an issue!? Sounds like a bunch of E1's and E2's need a swift kick in the butt and a lesson on what serving means. Good grief, and everyone says the AF is going soft! Besides that, being that we are into year 15 of a never ending conflict in the Middle East, they will have their opportunity soon enough.

This is the same as if they made everyone only wear a national defense ribbon because junior service members don't have a fat stack and feel left out that they haven't earned what the E4 has in 3 years or the SNCO who's in his 12th year or the SgtMaj who's been in for over 20.

This is absurd. We earned that patch just like you would earn airborne wings or any other identifier. Why should I have to belittle my accomplishments and experience because joe snuffy just got in the army.
