I would say yes, only because you invested the first $100 monthly within the first 12 months of your career into it. Response by SSG Derrick L. Bill and completed the degree then I don't see any issue with cashing out. However, if you haven't even taken advantage of the benefit and gone back to school then you should not be able to be lazy and cash out. Some will use none, some will use it all, and everyone else falls in between. Setting aside the Pols "I support the MIL" BS, the compensation system is designed and tweaked regularly to obtain and keep for a while a certain body count with certain skills, etc. So if you want cash on the end, then expect the potential benefit to be far less. At any given point, there is a fixed amount of money available to dole out. Like medical insurance, you pay into it so it's there if you need it. In this case, education is there if you want it. The cost of education growth rate exceeds that of inflation. Rest assured, the powers will do everything they can to keep a fixed cap on the benefit as they do now lest it become an uncontrolled entitlement. Say 25-50%. Some people do just fine without ever going to school, but they could probably use that money for something else. A fund for their children, maybe just put it into a savings acct for retirement, whatever.
