Make sure you have everything you need and to be as prepared as possible. It certainly cannot hurt! I always thought of job hunting as a job. You schedule events and make it happen. They can help you create a resume that will get you interviews and will also have the contacts to get you in front of those who are interviewing. Also don't look for that dream job when you first get out. Look for that job that will allow you to make money and pay the bills. Once you are working, then look for that dream job. Again, working with recruiters is a great way to get matched with jobs that you are good fit for. Bottom line, you do not have to do it alone. Even the VA has people that can help you find a job.

Also don't treat it like getting ready for a deployment. It is not even close to being the same. It is more like when you first joined and you talked to a recruiter to see if the service was right for you, and to find out what MOS you could do. The first few days of the job need to be in development of your products (resume, strategy, scouring the job markets for potential jobs, etc). At the point that you have a strong working resume, when you punch the time clock in the morning (ok, at home, at your table, BUT have a SCHEDULED start time, break time, lunch time, and quitting time...treat it like a job!) you start identifying positions. Once positions are identified, you polish your resume and cover letter to THAT position. Upload, send, fill out applications...what ever they require. Afternoons can be used in making f/u calls, sending thank you cards for interviews and scouring for new postings. Treat it like a job. It is. Until you get a paying position with someone, your job IS to find a job. If your job is like a deployment, then yes....treat it like a deployment. Also, do not disrupt your routine (whatever shift you are used to working...keep that schedule) because it will be that much harder for you to go back to your "normal" once you break it. Don't get lax, it will hurt you in the long run. Remain optimistic and make sure that you are using a viable job search program (in Florida, I recommend the state job search program, Employ Florida Marketplace) so that you don't end up getting burnt out and frustrated. Check with your state workforce board - most have Veterans Programs that are very useful.
