I do believe that PVT's through SPC should experience barracks life, the SOP's for barracks rooms and barracks maintenance. Part of coming up through the ranks is experiencing the "rough" days as a lower enlisted, which then makes you appreciate and respect the NCO rank even more, feeling accomplished that you did your time, but how does it help when the SGT rank is in some cases, in the same category (E1-E5)? In my opinion, it sets the image that SSG is the real stepping stone for Soldiers to separate themselves, SGT's required to be in the barracks because they're not authorized BAH. <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>In the marine Corps BAH own right used to be authorized for Sgts and at times still is. however the barracks must be mostly filled to capacity. If the barracks have room then the Sgt stays in the barracks. I think this is a good policy as it lets the Sgts know what is going on with their Marines.
