I agree LCpl it is a disgrace and I'd say if we showed up at her mom's funeral and started the same load of crap she would most likely have a screaming cow and call the police or some ambulance chasing lawyer and attempt to sue us to death. But seeing as how the honored dead in that hollowed ground died giving her that right of "Free Speech" theres not much we can do about it.

Yep that is a disgrace but it's her right. The men and women who lay in honor there would be the first to say " yep that sucks but we did give our lives so she could express herself" Most of the time people think only of themselves and face it they are stupid. They take how they got there freedom with very little thought. They are stupid not because of lack of brains but not being smart but because they are not taught respect. The respect you and I learned first hand. Our friends who have died, who gave the gift of freedom... we know the sacrifice...... we (you and I and everyone who has or is defending our constitution). Each of us have our all given so she can flip the bird.

After reading many of these comments I really feel that this person has received way too much attention than she deserves. We do what we believe we must do in life, not because of what she or anyone else thinks or says, but rather because we believe it is the right thing to do. There are many 'Jane Fonda's' in the world that do not realize that the German or Japanese language is not the national language for a reason, and will never believe that it ever could have, that is until we are no longer around. When they are left to their own devices without the protection of the few that step-up, they will realize their foolishness. Unfortunately it is like arguing with a brick wall until that time arises. Unfortunately it is not just military, police and firefighters are also ridiculed and disrespected, that is until you need them!

This person is dismissed as far as I am concerned.

People who show disrespect at such locations deserve to be punished.

I have seen several such situations in the news in recent months, most of which have simply been ignored.

I remember an incident in the mid-1970s, when I was stationed at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, when some jerk attempted to lower the American flag at the USS Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbor, while shouting anti-American sentiments. Two young Marines, who were visiting the memorial, grabbed the guy, raised the flag and threw him in the water. They were promptly arrested by the Park Police and handed over to the Navy. What punishment did they receive from their command? A few days after the incident, the Commanding Officer, Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station, held a Review/Parade in their honor and presented them with medals. Hooah!!!

People who do this sort of thing deserve to have their ear lobes stomped together BUT it's her right to freedom of speech. We have to get rid of the idea that everyone likes the military. Some people could care less how many people have died in service to the country. Also, if someone disagrees with a military strategy the easiest targets to voice those views at are military personnel. People will always protest the government by protesting at a base even though no one on that base has anything to do with those decisions. It sick but it's the burden we carry. So in the face of resistance keep ya head high, remain proud, and know that they can do that because we do what we do

Easy, an embarrassment who has no respect for the privileged life they've have most likely done nothing to be afforded.

I'm generally very calm, and hate the image projected by veterans like the guy who went to McDonalds to make a scene, but Arlington is just different to me. For one, it's not like you accidentally end up at Arlington for any other purpose than to honor the dead, so if you're there treat it with respect. I briefly considered trying to get in the Old Guard, because I believe it's a great privilege to honor the past in that way. After being stationed in the Washington D.C. area though, I realized it's for the best I never did, because I definitely would have absolutely lost it eventually on someone ungrateful.

She was stupid for doing what she did. She compounded the stupidity by photographing it. She further compounded it by putting the photo on social media. Once a photo goes on the internet, it is there forever.
Did she deserve to lose her job? I believe she did. If I were an employer, I would not want an employee that so offended my customer base that I lost business because of it.
Should she have received death threats, absolutely not. It is one thing to be outraged by a person's disrespect. If I were in a service industry, I would refuse her service.
Does she deserve threats of rape? Again absolutely not. What she did was disrespectful, and deplorable. Rape is a horrible violation of another human being. Nobody should be subjected to that or the threat of it.
Unfortunately for Ms. Stone, she is not a grieving widow lashing out at the military for the loss of her spouse. She is not a crusader whose belief that war is wrong is so strong that she would use this act as a means of drawing attention to her cause. No, she was a tourist who thought that taking a picture emulating a yell while throwing the bird at The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier would be funny.
I have been to the tomb of the unknown soldier. I went on a spring day when the sun was shining. It was a surreal experience. Going through Arlington Cemetery with its rows of marble headstones, coming to the shrine, none of the observers were making a lot of noise. Even the noise of the city seemed to be hushed in that area. The only sounds piercing the silence were birds chirping, and the clicking of the heels by the guardians of the tomb. It was so quiet and peaceful. It was a spiritual experience for me. It was the best part of visiting Washington DC.
I pity Ms. Stone. She had the opportunity to enjoy that experience, and instead she chose to sully the experience with her antics.

This photo is wrong in so many ways. However, a photo is worth a thousand words. I believe her story she said about the inside joke her and her friends have when it comes to unique signs. Yes this was very bad judgment on her part, but she meant no disrespect towards the brave that are buried there. She also did not deserve what has happened to her since the picture was posted. While I, like most Americans, am infuriated by this, I recognize that this is quickly beoming the norm in our society. Respect for servicemembers and law enforcement alike is rapidly dwindling to nothing. This is right up there with burning the National Colors, and assaulting law enforcement officials. It is wrong. It is disrepectful. And penalties should be doled out accordingly. However, that being said, as per our omniscient government, ever wise and knowledgeable as it is, these displays are within the rights of the citizens. Free Speech, Free Protest, and Freedom of Choice. Do I agree with it? Not no, but HELL NO! However, there is little that I can do about it. The People have lost respect for what we do, and who we are. And that respect will continue to dwindle and fade until the wolves that we keep from their door come knocking. And we have to step in a beat them back regardless. Until it is right in their faces again, like it was in the first 5 years of the new millenium, the People will see us as nothing more than murderers and brutal savages. I have accepted this as the new norm. But I will still risk my neck for their ignorance. Because that is what I am sworn and dedicated to do. Whether I agree with it or not. I know who I am and I know what I am here for. I no longer care if they do, nor if they like it. Because without me, they couldn't do the disrespectful nonsense that they think is so amusing and acceptable. So when ignorance looks me in the face, I laugh, because I know that when I am staring death in the face, they don't have to.
