What makes a great leader? Management theorist Simon Sinek suggests, it’s someone who makes their employees feel secure, who draws staffers into a circle of trust. But creating trust and safety — especially in an uneven economy — means taking on big responsibility.

His TED talk, about the 1:50 min mark hits on a very good topic of how the military and corporate rewards its people.

With that in mind, How do we start changing the mindset for corporate world to follow suit on how the military rewards its people?

It would be nice to see businesses start emulating, to an extent, the military model of leadership. It's going to take getting good qualified and strong former service-members into those positions to be that influence though.

Great post, SSgt Private RallyPoint Member! You got me to watch a TED Talk by Simon Sinek. I received his book "Start with Why" in the mail today.

In the video he mentions the environment, and I think that is obviously the key difference between the business world and the military. In the military - even in garrison - it's theoretically about life and death. In a deployed environment, it IS ABSOLUTELY about life and death.

In the corporate world, it's not about life and death. It might be about keeping your job or losing your job, but, as serious as that may be, it pales (in a BIG way) when compared to life and death.
