While the U.S. Army weighs whether to bring charges against Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, six of his former platoon mates are shopping proposals for a book and movie that would render their own harsh verdicts. But agents for the soldiers say that some publishers have balked, in at least one case out of fear that the project would bolster conservative criticism of President Obama's administration. What is more disturbing, profiting from book sales or the publishers balking at publishing the book or are both just as disturbing?

I think it is disturbing that people (service members or otherwise) would be trying to publish books on a matter that is likely to be in litigation soon. One result is likely to be a greater difficulty getting an impartial panel for a court martial - the books are likely to be widely discussed, even if not widely read. Publishing the book(s) after the matter has been adjudicated is an entirely different matter.

That some publishers may be balking due political concerns is disappointing, but hardly new. Time-Life often refused to print anything critical of claimed anti-Communist efforts during the 50s and 60s. Some publishers are liberal in their politics, others are conservative. Ultimately, they are in the publishing business to make money - most will decide to publish something if they think it will sell.

Why not ? People have been profiting off of war for centuries now- it's kind of appropriate that some one who actually FOUGHT in the war could get rich from it.

Everybody thinks that their opinion of a hot topic makes for good reading/watching. It so ain't so!

It would be like watching a weekend marathon of the shows of Paris Hilton, the Kardashians, Kate +8 and the Duggers in order to obtain relevant information on current events. When all is said and done who is going to give a Rats A$$, flying F--k on what any of these self postulating glory seekers have to say.

These soldiers, though close to the story, are going to provide what level of relevant information regarding the life and times of BB that is not going to show him for the punk he is? 0 to -10? Where's the story? What angle can they come from that will promote any interest in the story, the guys a fruit loop, what else is there to say?
